Oxidation Of Carbon Monoxide Over Ceria And Alumina Supported Palladium Catalysts, John Davis Gary Dec 2018

Oxidation Of Carbon Monoxide Over Ceria And Alumina Supported Palladium Catalysts, John Davis Gary

Theses and Dissertations

Palladium catalysts on both Al2O3 and CeO2, supports were studied for efficacy in low temperature carbon monoxide oxidation. Calcination temperatures were varied between 500-900°C for alumina supported catalysts and shown to have no significant difference in activity. X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy studies revealed structural changes associated with palladium states and reacted catalysts and displayed a change from palladium oxide (PdO) to native palladium oxide (PdOx) and elemental palladium (Pd). Activity studies were conducted on all catalysts synthesized and indicated that Pd/Al2O3 achieved 100% CO conversion at 150°C when calcined at 500°C and pretreated with reduction process. Pd/CeO2 showed higher activity and …

Analysis And Comparison Of The Photodecomposition Reaction Of Methanol On Ceo2 Impregnated Tio2 Surfaces Versus Bare Tio2 Surfaces, Christopher A. Estes May 2015

Analysis And Comparison Of The Photodecomposition Reaction Of Methanol On Ceo2 Impregnated Tio2 Surfaces Versus Bare Tio2 Surfaces, Christopher A. Estes

Master of Science in Chemical Sciences Theses

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been well-studied primarily due to its unique photocatalytic activity. Different preparation techniques have been developed to increase its photocatalytic activity by various means, including simply increasing the surface area, changing the makeup of the framework, and modifying the surface with a dopant. This study focuses on the effect cerium oxide (CeO2) has on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 by depositing CeO2 on the TiO2 surface. Methanol is used as a probe reactant for these experiments due to its wide use in heterogeneous catalysis research and the limited products that …

Determination Of The Effects Of Zno And Ceo2 Nanoparticles In Mesquite (Prosopis Juliflora) And Soybean (Glycine Max): Synchrotron And Spectroscopic Approaches, Jose Angel Hernandez Viezcas Jan 2013

Determination Of The Effects Of Zno And Ceo2 Nanoparticles In Mesquite (Prosopis Juliflora) And Soybean (Glycine Max): Synchrotron And Spectroscopic Approaches, Jose Angel Hernandez Viezcas

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

The rapid growth of nanotechnology is exposing the environment to abnormal concentrations of engineered nanoparticles (NPs). There is concern about the unknown consequences of NPs on the environment and human health. This Dissertation has relied significantly on Synchrotron and other spectroscopic techniques to give insights on the effects, speciation and distribution of two metal oxide nanoparticles (ZnO, CeO2) on two plant species (Mesquite and Soybean). We evaluated the effects of ZnO (10 nm) and CeO2 (8 nm) NPs on a plant species native to the semi-arid regions of North America, Mesquite (Prosopis juliflora velutina). Mesquite plants grown in hydroponic culture …

Interaction Of Ceo2 And Zno Nanoparticles Towards The Symbiotic Association Of Alfalfa (Medicago Sativa) And Sinorhizobium Meliloti In Soil, Susmita Bandyopadhyay Jan 2013

Interaction Of Ceo2 And Zno Nanoparticles Towards The Symbiotic Association Of Alfalfa (Medicago Sativa) And Sinorhizobium Meliloti In Soil, Susmita Bandyopadhyay

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

The production of engineered nanoparticles (ENPs) has rapidly increased due to their wide range of applications in the field of electronics, medicine, chemistry and biology. Consequently, concerns have risen about the environmental release and potential negative impact of NPs. A few reports have described the effects of TiO2 NPs and quantum dots upon nitrogen fixing bacteria. However, the understanding of the interaction of NPs in plant-microbe interface (symbiotic association), like alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.)-Sinorhizobium meliloti, is still in its infancy. Alfalfa is the world's most important forage crop. It grows in association with S. meliloti, which is very important in …
