Alpha-Pyrone Glycosides From Scutellaria Salviifolia Benth, Zeynep Doğan, Kan'ichiro Ishiuchi, Toshiaki Makino, İclal Saraçoğlu

Scutellaria salviifolia Benth. is an endemic species growing in Turkey that belongs to the family Lamiaceae. As a result of a phytochemical study on the aerial parts of S. salviifolia Benth., two new and 10 known compounds were isolated from the aqueous fraction of methanolic extract. The new compounds are methyl-$\alpha $-pyrone glucosides, 3,4-dihydroxy-6-methylpyran-2-one 3-$O$-$\beta $-glucopyranoside (=scusalvioside A, 1), and 3,4-dihydroxy-6-methylpyran-2-one 3-$O$-$\beta $-(6$'$-$O$-$E$-caffeoyl) glucopyranoside (=scusalvioside B, 2) with new skeletal structures. Chemistry Of Endemic \Textit{Tanacetum Mucroniferum} Hub.-Mor. {\&} Grierson Extracts And Three New Sesquiterpene Lactones, Hüseyi̇n Servi̇, Nezhun Gören

Tanacetum mucroniferum Hub.-Mor. & Grierson was collected from Sakaltutan in Erzincan Province of Turkey. Comparative phytochemical investigation was carried out on the ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of the plant. The secondary metabolites were isolated and purified by chromatographic methods such as column chromatography, medium pressure liquid chromatography, high-performance thin-layer chromatography, and preparative thin-layer chromatography. The extracts of the aerial parts of Tanacetum mucroniferum yielded three new sesquiterpene lactones and some known compounds, namely two sesquiterpene lactones, six flavonoids, three coumarins, and one triterpene. A new nonglycosidic iridoid, sambulin B (1), was isolated from the methanol extract of Sambucus ebulus L. leaves along with a recently reported new nonglycosidic iridoid, 10-O-acetylpatrinoside aglycone (sambulin A) (2); 2 flavonoids, isorhamnetin-3-O-\beta-D-glucopyranoside (3) and isorhamnetin-3-O-rutinoside (4); and a mixture of 2 flavonoids (5), quercetin-3-O-\beta-D-glucopyranoside and quercetin-3-O-\beta-D-galactopyranoside. Their structures were elucidated by 1-D and 2-D nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS) experiments.

Two new flavonol derivatives, Geranioside A (kaempferol 3-[3-(\alpha-rhamnopyranosyl)-4-oxy-5-hydroxy-6-methyl-3,4-dihyropyran-2H- 2-pyranoside]) (1) and Geranioside B (quercetin 3-[3-(\alpha-rhamnopyranosyl)- 4-oxy-5-hydroxy-6-methyl-3,4-dihyropyran-2H-2-pyranoside]) (2), along with 5 known flavonols (quercetin (3), kaempferol (4), quercetin 4'-O-\beta -glucopyranoside (5), quercetin 3-O-\beta -glucopyranoside (6), and kaemferol-3-O-\beta -glucopyranoside (7)), a gallic acid derivative (methyl gallate (8)), and a hydrolysable tannin (pusilagin (9)), were isolated from the aerial parts of Geranium purpureum. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of UV, IR, and 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments as well as TOF-MS.

Phytochemical investigations on the most active EtOAc extract led to the isolation of 9 flavonoids [quercetin (1), quercetin 3-O-\beta-glucopyranoside (2), quercetin 3-O-\beta-galactopyranoside (3), quercetin 3-O-(2''-O-galloyl)-\beta-glucopyranoside (4), quercetin 3-O-(2''-O-galloyl)-\beta-galactopyranoside (5), quercetin 3-O-(6''-O-galloyl)-\beta-glucopyranoside (6), quercetin 3-O-(6''-O-galloyl)-\beta-galactopyranoside (7), quercetin-3-O-\alpha -arabinofuranoside (8), and quercetin-3-O-\alpha-rhamnopyranosyl-(1\to 6)-\beta-glucopyranoside (9)] and a simple phenolic compound (methyl gallate) (10). The structures of the compounds were elucidated by 1- and 2-dimensional NMR techniques (^1H, ^{13}C, COSY, HMBC, and HMQC) and ESI-TOF-MS spectrometry. H_2O_2-induced lipid peroxidation inhibitor effects in human red blood cells of different extracts of G. tuberosum L. subsp. tuberosum aerial parts were also investigated. An iridoid glucoside, lamiide (1); 4 phenylethanoid glycosides, acteoside (2), \beta-OH acteoside (3), leucosceptoside A (4) and samioside (5); a caffeic acid ester, chlorogenic acid (6); 2 flavone glucosides, luteolin-7-O-glucopyranoside (7) and chrysoeriol-7-O-glucopyranoside (8); and a flavanone aglycone, naringenin (9), were isolated from the aerial parts of Phlomis syriaca. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by means of spectroscopic (UV, IR, 1D- and 2D-NMR, and FAB-MS) methods. Free radical scavenging activity of the isolated compounds was determined using the radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), spectroscopically.

From the overground parts of an endemic Sideritis species, S. stricta, 4 diterpenes, sideridiol (1), isosidol (2), isolinearol (3), and linearol (4); 2 flavonoid glycosides, isoscutellarein 7-O-[6'''-O-acetyl-\beta -D-allopyranosyl-(1 \to 2)]-\beta -D-glucopyranoside (5), and isoscutellarein 7-O-[6'''-O-acetyl-\beta -D-allopyranosyl-(1 \to 2)]-6''-O-acetyl-\beta -D-glucopyranoside (6); a methoxyflavone, xanthomicrol (7); and a phenylethanoid glycoside, verbascoside (=acteoside) (8) were isolated. The structures of the isolated compounds were established based on spectroscopic evidence (UV, IR, 1D- and 2D-NMR, MS).

The effects of the developing stages of Teucrium orientale L. var. orientale on the antioxidant and DPPH radical scavenging activities of the extracts obtained with different organic solvents were investigated. The aerial parts of the plant samples were collected at the budding, flowering and vegetative stages and then the plant samples were extracted separately with petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone and methanol. The antioxidant activities of the extracts were evaluated using 2 different tests: the thiocyanate method and scavenging of the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical. From the aerial parts of Geranium pyrenaicum Burm., a new flavonol glycoside, kaempferol 3-O-(2'',3''-di-O-galloyl)-{\ss}-D-glucopyranoside (7), along with 6 known related glycosides [kaempferol 3-O-\beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), quercetin 3-O-\beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), quercetin 3-O-\beta-D-galactopyranoside (3), kaempferol 3-O-(2''-O-galloyl)-\beta-D-glucopyranoside (4), quercetin 3-O-(2''-O-galloyl)-\beta-D-glucopyranoside (5) and quercetin 3-O-(2'',3''-di-O-galloyl)-{\ss}-D-glucopyranoside (6)] and the ellagitannins corilagin (8) and tellimagrandin I (9) were isolated. Their structures were established from spectroscopic studies (UV, FAB-MS, ^1H and ^{13}C-NMR, ^1H-^1H COSY, HETCOR, HMBC). Three rare methoxyflavonoids, rhamnazin 3-O-rutinoside (1), rhamnocitrin 3-O-rutinoside (2) and isorhamnetin 3-O-rutinoside (3), were isolated from the methanolic extract of Pinaropappus roseus together with 2 well-known flavonoids, quercetin 3-O-rutinoside (=rutin) (4) and kaempferol 3-O-rutinoside (5). The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of UV, 1D and 2D NMR and FAB-Mass spectral analysis. Free radical scavenging activities of the isolated compounds were also demonstrated. This is the first report on the chemical composition of the genus Pinaropappus.

From the aerial parts of Phlomis integrifolia Hub.-Mor. (Lamiaceae) were isolated a neolignan glucoside, dehyrodiconiferyl alcohol-4-O-\beta -D-glucopyranoside (1), an ester flavone glycoside, chrysoeriol 7-O-(3''-O-trans-p-coumaroyl)-\beta -D-glucopyranoside (2), four phenylethanoid glycosides, forsythoside B (3), verbascoside (=acteoside) (4), leucosceptoside A (5) and martynoside (6) along with an iridoid glucoside, lamiide (7). The structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was carried out by spectroscopic (UV, IR, 1D- and 2D-NMR) methods. The isolation of neolignan glucoside dehyrodiconiferyl alcohol-4-O-\beta -D-glucopyranoside (1) is reported for the first time from a Phlomis species as well as for the family Lamiaceae.
