The objectives of this thesis are

1. to provide a comprehensive guide to using Pocock's group sequential method for clinical trials and

2. to show by computer simulations that the group sequential method is appropriate when using the logistic regression model.

In section 1.2, clinical trials are defined with an emphasis on Phase III clinical trials. The primary intent of sections 1.2 and 1.3 is to describe clinical trial characteristics which suggest that interim analyses are desirable.
