Enterococcus Faecium Septicemia In A Dog: Clinical Features And Molecular Screening Of Virulence Genes Of Enterococcus, Trasida Ployngam, Numfa Fungbun

A one-year-old Golden Retriever male dog manifested multi-systemic inflammation with a marked increment of plasma D-dimer. Enterococcus spp. was identified from hemoculture and it showed multidrug resistance (MDR), including amikacin, cephazolin, ceftriaxone, clindamycin, imipenem, penicillin G and sulfa-trimethoprim. Pure Enterococcus colonies were identified for species-specific DNA by PCR amplification and sequencing. It was 100% identical with the Enterococcus faecium strains in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database. Primary renal tumor is uncommon in dogs and cats, with few previous computed tomography (CT) reports. Previous studies have reported that contrast-enhancing CT is helpful in differentiating the type of renal tumors. This study aimed to describe CT findings of renal tumors in dogs and cats and identify contrast-enhancing pattern according to 3 post-contrast phases. An 11-year-old neutered female Labrador Retriever presented with a 1-week history of respiratory distress, lethargy and anorexia. On physical examination, the dog exhibited dyspnea with a rapid and shallow breathing pattern. Thoracic radiography showed diffuse nodular or miliary interstitial patterns, which raised suspicion of bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections and metastatic tumors. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was performed and the culture yielded no growth of infectious agents, including bacteria and fungi. Biliary diseases are uncommon, potentially fatal causes of acute abdomen in dogs. Little information is present comparing the performance of computed tomography (CT) to ultrasound in identifying canine biliary pathology. Thirty-five client-owned dogs presenting for acute abdomen signs received an abdominal ultrasound and contrast-enhanced abdominal CT. Two authors reviewed the randomized, anonymized CT and ultrasound studies. Twenty-eight dogs had biliary pathology and seven dogs serving as controls had no evidence of biliary disease. The final diagnoses of patients with biliary pathology included cholelithiasis, gallbladder mucoceles, cholangiohepatitis/cholangitis, extrahepatic biliary obstruction, gallbladder wall edema, gallbladder wall mass, and cystic mucosal hyperplasia. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a novel method to treat intestinal and extraintestinal diseases by transplanting the microbiota in the feces of healthy animals into the gastrointestinal tracts of patients and reconstructing intestinal flora in the patients' intestine. In this article, we reviewed the recent studies of canine FMT focusing on its indications. A dorsal sling technique for correction of nuchal ligament excision in a dermoid sinus canine case is presented in this report. At surgery, there were multiple tubes of the dermoid sinus tracts of different types. The nuchal sinus was treated using a segmental resection at the area of involvement and a dorsal sling technique was performed. The dog recovered uneventfully and regained normal daily activities within a short time after surgery. The objective of this study was to improve the accuracy of drilling during the repair of sacroiliac luxation with a 3D-printed patient-specific drill guide (3D-GDT) compared to free-hand drilling technique (FHDT). A blinded, randomized, prospective study was performed including sixteen canine cadavers (20-25 kg) euthanized for reasons not related to the study. Dorsal, bilateral, sacroiliac luxations (SILs) were created experimentally. A pelvic CT was performed pre- and post-drilling. The FHDT was drilled followed by 3D-GDT for each sacrum.
