Oxidative stress can result from either the excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) or an impaired antioxidant system, or both. It causes damage to lipids, proteins and DNA. Therefore, oxidative stress may be involved in carcinogenesis, and is associated with many types of cancer in dogs. The objective of this study was to compare the levels of malondialdehyde, protein hydroperoxides, glutathione, retinol and alpha-tocopherol between dogs with mast cell tumors and clinically healthy controls. Bone marrow was collected from 7 dogs and submitted to 3 different MSC isolation techniques (direct plating, red blood cell lysis and gradient density). The number of cells, expression of MSC markers and in vitro the osteogenic differentiation obtained from each technique were examined. In order to study in vivo the osteogenic capability of derived MSCs, non-union ulna lesions (n=3) were firstly induced by transplantation of a composite of polycarprolactone/ hydroxyapatite (PCL/HAp) scaffold experimentally on to a critical-size ulna bone defect. A novel membrane was previously found to be effective in preventing post-thoracotomy pleural adhesions in dogs. The aim of the present study was to verify the animals’ clinical condition, the biological fate of the residual membrane, the presence or absence of pleural adhesions, and any inflammatory reactions over a 10-week observation period following membrane implantation. The objective of this retrospective study was to distinguish between dogs with pulmonary hypertension (PH) and non-PH by using parameters obtained from thoracic radiographs. Data of 72 dogs of small breeds aged more than 1 year old and weighing less than 10 kg were retrieved. Echocardiography was used as a gold standard to diagnose PH and separate the dogs into two groups: PH (n=15) and non-PH (n=57). Seven formulae were created from measurements on right lateral and ventrodorsal radiographic views. Twenty-three client-owned dogs with degenerative lumbosacral stenosis (DLS) treated by decompressive surgery were included in this study. The dogs were assigned to postoperative medication protocols of tepoxalin (10 mg/kg, SID) for 2 weeks (8 dogs, group 1), of tepoxalin (10 mg/kg, SID) for 6 weeks (7 dogs, group 2), and of carprofen (2 mg/kg, BID) for 2 weeks (8 dogs, group 3). Gait function after decompressive surgery of the dogs was evaluated by force plate analysis (FPA) and questionnaires filled out by their owners. Cranial cruciate ligament rupture is one of the most common problems in dogs. Previous studies have arrived at no absolute conclusion regarding suture attachment sites using the extracapsular technique to repair cranial cruciate ligaments in dogs. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify and compare suture attachment sites on the femur and tibia between small and large dog breeds at different stifle angles. The aims of this study were to evaluate the repeatability of neuromuscular transmission (NMT) monitoring by electromyography and to compare train-of-four (TOF) responses of thoracic limbs to those of pelvic limbs in dogs after atracurium administration. Seven healthy dogs were enrolled in the study. The dogs were anesthetized with midazolam, morphine, propofol and isoflurane three times with a washout period of seven days. Alacepril is an ACE-inhibitor (ACE-I), which has unique properties including peripheral sympathoinhibitory effect and negative chronotropic effect, and it is suspected to have a superior cough suppressive effect in comparison to other ACE-Is. The purpose of the study was to evaluate whether switching to alacepril from other ACE-Is will alleviate the clinical symptoms of congestive heart failure (CHF) caused by mitral valve regurgitation (MR). In this research, we investigate the prevalence of Dirofilaria immitis infection in dogs using microscopical, serological, and molecular methods from the Central Anatolia Region (Sivas) of Turkey and reveal the associated risk factors. Whole blood and serum samples were obtained from 306 dogs older than 7 months. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the modified Knott's method (Knott) were used for detecting the microfilaria and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was applied for the presence of D. immitis antigens. The prevalence of D. immitis in dogs was detected as 2.9% (9/306) by PCR and ELISA and as 1.3% (4/306) by Knott. All …

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of topical tacrolimus (0.1%) ointment in stimulating tear production in dogs with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). Thirty-six dogs (58 eyes) diagnosed with KCS were included in this study.
