The Efficacy Of Intravaginal Antibiotic Or Their Combination With Different Gonadotropins On Vaginitis And Fertility In Ewes Synchronized With Progesterone Impregnated Intravaginal Sponges, Bariş Güner, İhsan Kisadere

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted with two experiments to investigate the efficacy of intravaginal antibiotic or their combination with different gonadotropin use on vaginitis and the fertility in Berrichon ewes. All ewes (n = 106) were synchronized with intravaginal sponges containing 60 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate for 14 days. For the first experiment, ewes (n = 50) received 50 mg enrofloxacin (TRT) to sponge prior to insertion or received no treatment to sponge (CON) during nonbreeding season. For the second experiment, ewes (n = 56) were randomly assigned to one of the four groups (TRT-E; TRT-G; CON-E; CON-G) according to the presence …

The Effect Of Different Ram Introducing Procedures (Protocol 66) On Fertility Parameters In Anatolian Merino Ewes During Breeding Season, Şükrü Dursun

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, different applications of ram introduction at the beginning of the breeding season were investigated in terms of their effects on some fertility parameters. The rams were introduced to the herd (Farm II), removed for 6 days, and reintroduced again in the experiment group, while the rams stayed within the herd (Farm I) all of the breeding season in the control group. In both farms, ewes were hand mated. These practices were performed in two consecutive breeding seasons of 2014 and 2015. In farm II, in the following 13 days of the reintroduction of rams, 83.4% and 83.7% …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Classical procedures for semen evaluation in breeding soundness examination require time and are costly. The evaluation techniques with CASA are limited due to the lack of standardization among laboratories and data analysis methods. Recent studies have contradictory conclusions on the actual predictive ability of this method alone regarding fertility. Finding a simple and objective test that can give the maximum correlation between in vitro and in vivo results has been the main focus of novel research. In this study, we aimed to develop a repeatable protocol of sperm adhesion test using oviductal explant (AOC) and the results were compared with …

The Combination Of Casa Kinetic Parameters And Fluorescein Staining As A Fertility Tool In Cryopreserved Bull Semen, Muhammed Enes İnanç, Beste Çi̇l, Koray Teki̇n, Havva Alemdar, Ali̇ Daşkin

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Prediction of male fertility with in vitro semen quality parameters remains a challenge for the bull industry. Fluorescein staining and computer-assisted semen analysis (CASA) ensure kinetically proper and functionally objective results to improve spermatological parameter control. Therefore, we aimed to examine the CASA kinetic parameters and fluorescein staining of cryopreserved bull semen and its relationship with fertility. A total of 90 frozen straws from 5 Simmental bulls were evaluated. After semen was thawed, the motility, kinetic parameters, and insemination doses were evaluated by CASA; fluorescein stainings were evaluated using a fluorescein microscope. The 60th-day nonreturn rates (NRRs) were recorded for …

The aim of the present study was to investigate the possibility of increasing boar's reproductive exploitation by using AI doses of doubly reduced volume and sperm count in the intrauterine AI procedure. The experiment was conducted at a commercial pig farm in Serbia in 2014. Classic intracervical insemination (ICI) was performed by using 50 mL or 100 mL volume doses containing 4 × 109 or 2 × 109 progressively motile spermatozoa. The same volumes and sperm numbers per dose were used with intrauterine insemination (IUI). Each dose combination was used to inseminate 30 sows. Intrauterine insemination with AI doses of …

Antioxidant Supplementation And Purification Of Semen For Improved Artificial Insemination In Livestock Species, Peter Petruska, Marcela Capcarova, Peter Sutovsky Jan 2014

Antioxidant Supplementation And Purification Of Semen For Improved Artificial Insemination In Livestock Species, Peter Petruska, Marcela Capcarova, Peter Sutovsky

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Improving sire reproductive performance in artificial insemination (AI) programs and maximizing the use of sires with valuable genomes are high on the list of priorities for livestock breeders in the United States and worldwide. While fixed-time AI and accurate estrous detection have already ameliorated the reproductive management of cows and sows, substantial gains remain to be made in the selection and utilization of male animals for field AI. In addition to better, more objective evaluation of breeding soundness and semen quality, numbers of spermatozoa per AI dose could be reduced and numbers of AI doses per collection could be increased …

Improvement Studies On Mutton Sheep For Marmara Region Conditions: I. Fertility, Lamb Survival, And Growth Traits Of Lambs, Ayhan Ceyhan, Tamer Sezenler, İsmai̇l Erdoğan, Osman Torun

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present study was conducted to compare the fertility of ewes, the survival rates, and the growth performance of lambs that were crossbred by mating German Black-Headed Mutton (GBM) rams with Kıvırcık ewes. The average lambing rates of the GBM × K(F1), Bandırma-I and Bandırma-II genotype, and Kıvırcık ewes were 80.00%, 75.73%, 76.78%, and 83.72%, respectively. The differences in lambing rates between the genotypes were significant (P < 0.01). The genotypes had a significant effect on litter size at birth, but not on fecundity. The differences in lambs' survival rates between the genotypes were significant (P < 0.05). The birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), and yearling live weight (YLW) of the lambs were 3.77 kg, 34.11 kg, and 43.71 kg for the GBM × K (F1); 3.74 kg, 32.98 kg, and 44.91 kg for the Bandırma-I; 3.73 kg, 33.18 kg, and 45.71 kg for the Bandırma-II; and 3.45 kg, 30.92 kg, and 42.22 kg for the Kıvırcık lambs. The results of this study showed that crossbreeding between the GBM and Kıvırcık breed did not significantly increase lamb production. However, crossbred lambs did not have significant survival problems when compared to native Kıvırcık lambs and had higher growth performance than purebred Kıvırcık lambs.

Semen collected from 3 buffalo and 2 zebu bulls was used for this purpose over 3 weeks (replicates). Fertility was compared after performing 28 inseminations with buffalo semen and 100 inseminations with zebu semen either after control thawing or thawing straws in ice water for 30-60 min. Progressive motility …
