The Structural And Biochemical Changes Of Kidney Tissue On Fluorosis In Rabbits, Mehmet Akdoğan, Ali̇ Bi̇lgi̇li̇, Erdal Karaöz, Alparslan Gökçi̇men, Gökhan Eraslan, Ebru Üstüner

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, the effects of sodium fluoride given subchronically at the doses of 1, 10 and 40 mg/L for 70 days were investigated. For this purpose, 21 male New Zealand rabbits were used. At the end of the 70th day, the level of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatine (CRE) and \gamma-GT activity in the plasma and the activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GSH-Rd), catalase (CAT) and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) were detected from blood samples taken from the control group (1 mg/L) and the trial …

Comparison Of The Effects Of Some Wound Healing Materials On Full Thickness Skin Wounds In Rabbits, Servet Kiliç, Necati̇ Ti̇murkaan, Sami̇ Ünsaldi, Ci̇han Günay, Özmen İstek, Bestami̇ Yilmaz Jan 2002

Comparison Of The Effects Of Some Wound Healing Materials On Full Thickness Skin Wounds In Rabbits, Servet Kiliç, Necati̇ Ti̇murkaan, Sami̇ Ünsaldi, Ci̇han Günay, Özmen İstek, Bestami̇ Yilmaz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The values of some materials with various mechanisms of actions on the wound healing were determined using qualitative and quantitative parameters and histopathologic findings. A total of 48 full thickness skin wounds, 4 from each of 12 rabbits, were created on their dorsal aspects. Of these wounds, 4 were allocated to group 1 (control), 24 to group 2 and 20 to group 3. Op-site, epigard, tagaderm, sclera, rabbit amnion and cow amnion were used in group 2 and yeast, methycellulose (MS), polyethhylenglcacol (PEG), lanolin and silvadene in group 3. Postoperatively, the wound surfaces were macroscopically examined and the effects of …

Effects Of Beta-Carotene On The Fertility Of Rabbits, Sevgi̇ Tek, M. Ragip Kiliçarslan, Çağatay Tek, Ahmet Sabuncu Jan 2002

Effects Of Beta-Carotene On The Fertility Of Rabbits, Sevgi̇ Tek, M. Ragip Kiliçarslan, Çağatay Tek, Ahmet Sabuncu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of beta-carotene added in the diets of New Zealand rabbits on the ovulation, fertilization ratio, LH and progesterone levels. Forty female and 4 male adult New Zealand rabbits were used. Female rabbits were divided into 2 groups consisting of 20 each. Group I consisted of experimental rabbits while Group II was kept as the control. Animals in the experimental and control groups were kept in separate cages but in the same husbandry conditions. For the animals in the experimental group, 2.8 mg/kg of synthetic beta-carotene was added into the diet …

Evaluation Of Echocardiographic Findings Via Doppler Technique In Rabbits, Melahat Toker, Vedat Sağmanligi̇l Jan 2002

Evaluation Of Echocardiographic Findings Via Doppler Technique In Rabbits, Melahat Toker, Vedat Sağmanligi̇l

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, echocardiograpic examination was performed on 20 healthy New Zealand rabbits. All rabbits were examined by the color Doppler technique using a 5-7.5 Mhz transducer. Images were obtained from parasternal long axis, parasternal short axis, apical four-chamber and modified four-chamber sections. The anatomy and function of hearts were examined in each rabbit individually. The values obtained were not significantly different from those obtained in dogs and cats. In addition, the changes seen in the right ventricle parameters were consistent with the changes in the left ventricle parameters.

The Effect Of Long-Term Supplemental Dietary Cadmium On Lipid Peroxidation And The Antioxidant System In The Liver And Kidneys Of Rabbits, Ebru Beytut, Mesut Aksakal Jan 2002

The Effect Of Long-Term Supplemental Dietary Cadmium On Lipid Peroxidation And The Antioxidant System In The Liver And Kidneys Of Rabbits, Ebru Beytut, Mesut Aksakal

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

We investigated the effects of chronic exposure to dietary cadmium (Cd) on the levels of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and reduced glutathione (GSH) associated with activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and the catalase (CAT) enzyme in the liver and kidneys of rabbits. Twenty 10-month-old clinically healthy New Zealand white rabbits (10/group) of 3545 ± 250 g average body weight were used. The control group was allowed to take food and tap water ad libitum, while the experimental group was given tap water containing 200 ppm CdCl_2/L for 28 weeks. Lipid peroxidation contents increased significantly in the liver (p < 0.001) and kidneys (p < 0.005) of Cd-treated rabbits. Glutathione levels decreased significantly in both the liver (p < 0.001) and the kidneys (p < 0.005) of the experimental group. Cadmium treatment caused a significant decrease in the activities of GSH-Px and CAT in the liver (p < 0.001, p < 0.01) and kidneys (p < 0.005, p < 0.1) of the rabbits. These results indicated that a Cd-induced increase in LPO was associated with reductions in GSH-Px and CAT enzyme activities, and in GSH levels in the liver and kidneys of rabbits.

Comparative Study On The Effects Of Wire, Polydioxanone, And Mini Titanium Plate Osteosynthesis Materials On The Healing Of Mandibular Fractures: An Experimental Study In Rabbits, Hasan Bi̇lgi̇li̇, Si̇bel Orhun Jan 2002

Comparative Study On The Effects Of Wire, Polydioxanone, And Mini Titanium Plate Osteosynthesis Materials On The Healing Of Mandibular Fractures: An Experimental Study In Rabbits, Hasan Bi̇lgi̇li̇, Si̇bel Orhun

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, corpus mandibula fractures were experimentally induced on 30 rabbits and 3 different materials were used for fixation. Thirty rabbits were arranged into 3 groups and then wire, polydioxanone and mini plate and screw osteosynthesis materials were used. The fracture healing was examined and compared with clinical, radiological and histological results. From the radiological results the parameters of groups were compared with Lane and Sandhu scale system in terms of callus tissue, mineralization and remodeling. The histological results were evaluated according to the Modified Heiple scoring and compared for histological fracture healing and callus tissue. At the end …
