A Study On The Effects Of Chilling On The Microbiological Quality Of Poultry Carcasses And Surface Decontamination With Lactic Acid, Hali̇l Tosun, Abdurrahman Üsame Tamer

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Effects of immersion chilling on the microbiological quality of poultry carcasses and cross contamination of Salmonella were studied. Levels of aerobic mezophilic bacteria, coliform, Escherichia coli and the incidence of Salmonella were determined prechill and postchill. The level of coliform and E. coli were reduced by immersion chilling (P0.05) but there was an increase in Salmonella incidence in carcasses exiting the immersion chiller indicating that this may be the point of most significant cross contamination in broiler processing plants. Experiments on microbial decontamination of poultry carcasses with lactic acid were performed. The microbial levels of poultry carcasses were reduced significantly …

M-Mode sections in the fourth right intercostal space were taken from the musculus papillaris, chordae tendinei, mitral valves and aortic root using 2-D, and the measurements were made in four standard transudcer positions. The movement of the left ventrical, right ventrical, left atrium, aortic root, interventricular septum, left ventricular posterior wall and heart walls were analysed, …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present study was designed to determine the effects of lighting regimes on the growth performances and carcass characteristics of Bronze turkeys reared in intensive conditions. Turkeys were reared under three lighting regimes (group 1, 12 h; group 2, 18 h; and group 3, 23 h.). In the experiment, the live weights of the turkeys (male+female) in groups 1, 2 and 3 were found to be 4578±142, 4630±131 and 4942±139 g respectively at the end of a 16-week period. The live weights during the 16-wk period were found to be affected (P0.05). These values were 3347±152, 3389±141 and 3554±197 g; …

An Investigation About The Effects Of Insemination Depth, Cervico-Vaginal Mucus Productionand Reflux Of Semen In The Vagina After Insemination In Sheep, Nedi̇m Koşum, Rudolf Wassmuth

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The possible influence of factors such as depth of insemination, cervico-vaginal mucus production and reflux of semen in the vagina after insemination in German merinolandrace were considered. Fresh diluted semen was inseminated intracervically. The results obtained for non-return-rate, lambing rate and fecundity are 49.01%, 39.75% and 64.55% respectively. The year had a significant effect (p ² 0.05) on non-return-rate and lambing rate but not on fecundity. The other parameters considered did not affect prolificacy significantly.

Evaluation Of Immunogenicity Of Pasterurella Haemolytica Serotypes In Experimental Models, K. Serdar Di̇ker, Mehmet Akan, Osman Kaya

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The immunogenicity of Pasteurella haemolyticaserotypes was investigated in an experimental animal model. Rabbits were immunized with bacterins and leukotoxins of selected serotypes of P. haemolytica, and the IgG level and antileukotoxin activities of immune sera were measured. The highest IgG levels against A1, A2, A7 and T4 antigens were detected in rabbits receiving polyvalent combined (bacterin plus leukotoxin) immunogens. Monovalent combined immunogens induced high antibody titers against homologous serotypes, but low titers against heterologous serotypes. Serotype A1 and A7 were found to be more antigenic than A2 and T4. The highest antileukotoxin activity in monovalent groups was detected in A1 and …

Effects Of Bac On The Innervation Of Stomach, Berri̇n Gençer Tarakçi Jan 2000

Effects Of Bac On The Innervation Of Stomach, Berri̇n Gençer Tarakçi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Serosal application of BAC (benzalkonium chloride) to the pyloric antrum of the rat led to a complete loss of the intrinsic innervation of the treated region and also extensive loss of extrinsic sensory projections in the treated and untreated regions of the stomach. However, no changes were seen in the numbers of primary afferents projecting to the stomach, or expression of neuropeptides or neuronal proteins in the neurons. This finding is in marked contrast to the changes reported in sensory cell bodies after sectioning of the sciatic nerve, and suggested that visceral and somatic afferents may respond differently to axonal …

Different values were recorded in erythrocyte and serum protein amounts for both environments (P0.05).

Using Goal Programming In Rational And Economical Animal Nutrition, İsmet Doğan, Nurhan Doğan, Abdulkadi̇r Akcan Jan 2000

Using Goal Programming In Rational And Economical Animal Nutrition, İsmet Doğan, Nurhan Doğan, Abdulkadi̇r Akcan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Animal nutrition is one of the important problems of people involved in animal breeding. It is essential that animals get sufficient and well-balanced nutrition to be healthy. Especially obtaining the necessary food elements from cheaper food sources becomes a major concern when ensuring sufficient and well-balanced nutrition in animal breeding. The Goal Programming Method is an improved method for solving multi-objective problems. In solving these types of problem, it cannot be expected that all the goals can be exactly obtained. The results of multi-objective problem solutions are affected by the decision of the manager or decision maker. Therefore, when there …

The morphological and structural development of the syrinx was studied with a light microscope in 100 female and male Japanese quails from 1 to 60 days old and adults. The quails had a tracheobronchial syrinx since it was based on both tracheal and bronchial elements. Two tracheal syringeal cartilages were attached at both ends to the pessulus in the tympanum. In this species the tympanum had a slightly increased diameter. The pessulus was a wedge-shaped cartilage, its blade lying dorsoventrally so that it divided the airway vertically. The pessulus examined histologically at 35 and 42 days post-hatching showed marked and …

Evidence That The Neurokinin 1 Receptor Is Expressed In Spinal Neurones Which Do Not Synthesize Nitric Oxide In The Rat, Mümtaz Nazli, Richard Morris

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The co-localization of the distribution of the neurokinin 1 receptor with nitric oxide was investigated in laminae I-II, III- IV, X and in the intermediolateral horn of the spinal cord in thirteen adult rats. Silver-intensified gold and standard immunocytochemical labelling or standard double immunocytochemical labelling were employed in 40µm-thick sections of the spinal cord. There were many NK1 receptor-expressing neurones in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, but none of these expressed NOS. Although neurones expressing the NK1 receptor and NOS were in close proximity in LX and IML, co-localization of the NK1 receptor and NOS in single neurones …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Forty-six formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded canine mammary tumors, 15 benign and 31 malignant, were studied immunohistochemically. Mouse monoclonal anti-alpha-cytokeratin 18, mouse monoclonal anti-alpha-cytokeratin (pan cytokeratin), mouse monoclonal anti-alpha-smooth muscle actin and mouse monoclonal anti-vimentin antibodies were used. Metaplastic squamous cells in two solid carcinomas were positive for both cytokeratin 18 and pan cytokeratin. It was a notable finding that there were unreactive epithelial cells in some tumors for broad spectrum cytokeratin antibody (pan cytokeratin). Myofibroblasts in benign and malignant tumors were …
