Short-Term Outcomes Of A Comprehensive Rehabiliation Program With Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation In Polyneuropathy: A Case Report, Tuangtip Surarangsit
Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Polyneuropathy, a condition affecting the peripheral nervous system, often results in sensory and motor dysfunction in older adults. Treatment options include medications and various physical therapy modalities including Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation (PMS). However, evidence supported treating nerve dysfunction with PMS is limited. In this case, an 84-year-old male with a history of diabetes mellitus and osteoarthritis presented with bilateral lower extremity sensory and motor polyneuropathy, experiencing weakness, sensory deficits, and gait instability. After limited success with conventional treatments, a comprehensive rehabilitation program was implemented over four weeks, integrating PMS, occupational therapy, and advanced gait training. Following the intervention, light touch …

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Background: It is unclear whether generalized joint hypermobility (GJH) influences the musculotendinous unit (MTU) extensibility or proprioception of the knee joint in individuals with asymptomatic GJH.
Objectives: To compare the quadriceps and hamstring MTU length as well as knee joint force sense (FS) and joint position sense (JPS) between individuals with asymptomatic GJH and non-GJH controls.
Methods: Thirty-two female subjects were recruited, with 16 subjects in the GJH and non-GJH groups. The angles measured from modified prone knee bend (mPKB) and straight leg raising (SLR) tests were used to identify the quadriceps and hamstrings MTU extensibility using photographic-based angle measurements. …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Introduction – The digital pen with tablets (DPT) effectively modifies the disadvantages of the standard mouse (SM) more prominently than any other alternative pointing devices. However, previous studies lack sufficient evidence to confirm its ability to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). Consequently, our research aimed to prove the DPT as a prevention strategy for the neck-shoulder and upper extremity WMSDs on mouse side by evaluating pathogenesis-related variables. Method – Our study employed a single-subject design with 35 healthy female office workers whose primary workstyle depends on the SM. We assessed muscle activity pattern, fatigue rate, postural risk, perceived discomfort, and …

Sit-To-Stand Ability With Dual Task Among Older Adults With Mild Cognitive Impairment, Perayut Chimsuwan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Sit to stand (STS) is the basic mobility related to the quality of life. Older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have a movement pattern change in motor function. Moreover, the dual task can interfere with cognitive ability, leading to reduced motor performance. However, there was a lack of evidence of movement time, kinematics, and kinetics while performing STS tasks. This study aims to evaluate the STS ability in older adults with and without MCI while performing in single and dual conditions. This study was cross-sectional. Seventy older adults (35 older adults with MCI and 35 controls) participated in this …

The Timed Up-and-Go test (TUG) test with cognitive tasks was a motor and cognitive dual-task approach used to evaluate the level of cognitive ability in older adults. Moreover, the different types of cognitive tasks challenge different aspects of cognition and impact performance differently. To our knowledge, the accuracy of the TUG test with different types of cognitive tasks still lacks information regarding which cognitive tasks and test outcomes are optimal to use. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the accuracy of the TUG test with different types of cognitive tasks to detect older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). …
