Evaluation Of Conservative And Operative Treatments In Active Patients With Acromioclavicular (Ac) And Rotator Cuff (Rc) Injuries, Jesse Singh
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Abstract
Introduction: Shoulder pain and disability, particularly acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) and rotator cuff (RC) injuries, are common in a physically active population. Determining operative or rehabilitative treatment plans involve multiple treatment choices influenced by the injury grade and treatment goals, such as return to sport. This thesis investigates the management of treatment for AC and RC injuries
Method: The first study is a scoping review that uses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) to synthesize 32 studies involving athletes who have undergone conservative or operative treatment for their Rockwood grade III …
Effects Of Static Versus Dynamic Cupping On Ankle Dorsiflexion, Alexandria N. Schaub
Effects Of Static Versus Dynamic Cupping On Ankle Dorsiflexion, Alexandria N. Schaub

PURPOSE: Cupping therapy involves lifting and separating fascial tissue to facilitate stretching and promote blood flow. Although cupping is a common treatment modality for pain, studies are inconsistent in regards to whether cupping improves other outcomes, like range of motion. Possessing a limited range of motion can lead to musculoskeletal injury. The aim of this research is to determine the acute effect of different methods of cupping therapy on ankle dorsiflexion. METHODS: A total of 35 healthy adults (age: 22.1±4.52 years) with an average ankle ROM of 34.68±4.22° at baseline were included in the study. Participants were randomly …

Physical activity of a sufficient amount and intensity is essential to health and the prevention of a sedentary lifestyle in all children as they transition into adolescence and adulthood. While fostering a fit lifestyle in all children can be challenging, it may be even more so for those with cerebral palsy (CP). Evidence suggests that bone and muscle health can improve with targeted exercise programs for children with CP. Yet, it is not clear how musculoskeletal improvements are sustained into adulthood. In this perspective, we introduce key ingredients and guidelines to promote bone and muscle health in ambulatory children with …
The Effect Of Running On The Onset And Development Of Osteoarthritis, Jordan Hekman
The Effect Of Running On The Onset And Development Of Osteoarthritis, Jordan Hekman
Senior Honors Theses
Osteoarthritis is a prominent and debilitating form of joint disease characterized by pain and deterioration of the articular cartilage and other tissues in the affected joint. Research has identified a variety of risk factors for osteoarthritis, including age, obesity, gender, previous injury, and occupation. The relationship between running and osteoarthritis is a topic of particular interest because of the prevalence of running as a simple and physiologically beneficial form of exercise. Increasing evidence suggests that recreational running has at worst no effect and at best a protective effect on joint and articular cartilage health in contrast to high-intensity professional/elite-level running …

Es-03 The Effects Of A Warmup Protocol Involving The Nordic Hamstring Exercise On Vertical Squat Jump Performance And Peak Muscular Activation, Reagan Hunter, Jeff Barfield
SC Upstate Research Symposium
Background: Vertical jumping is one of the most popular ways of assessing athleticism and power output of the lower body in both professional and recreational sport settings. Therefore, having access to an appropriate warmup protocol for enhancing this skill and the power output associated with it is essential for athletes whose success depends on the ability to perform it. Current literature demonstrates similar posterior kinetic chain muscle engagement during the vertical squat jump and during an exercise called the Nordic Hamstring Curl. The literature additionally demonstrates significant effects on strength and athleticism when the exercise is used in long-term training …
