The objective of this dissertation was to provide an initial description of self-presentation in injury rehabilitation (i.e., physiotherapy). To accomplish this, one qualitative and two quantitative studies were conducted. Study 1 determined whether self-presentational concerns were present in this setting. Female (n = 134) and male (n = 54) undergraduate students with a mean age of 20.64 years (SD = 1.99) completed measures of Social Physique Anxiety (SPA; Hart et al., 1989), self-presentational concerns, and preferences for features of the social and physical physiotherapy environment. As the greatest considerations in health-care design have traditionally been functional —hygiene, efficiency, and flexibility for changing technology— hospitals have evolved to become dehumanizing spaces. In this thesis two specific groups of chronically ill children who have among the longest inpatient stays are studied: cancer and organ transplant patients. Being under immunosuppressive drugs, these children are physically vulnerable thus are kept completely isolated. These long stays and isolation can be very depressing for them.

This thesis undertakes the challenge of designing a fully isolated space that doesn’t feel like one or in other words “a micro-town within a bubble”. The …

Ce travail porte sur la fasciathérapie appliquée aux douleurs de la fibromyalgie, et tente de répondre à la question « quels sont les effets de la fasciathérapie sur la douleur et ses consé- quences, ainsi que sur le vécu des patients qui souffrent de fibromyalgie ? » Pour cela, j’ai présenté le champ théorique des douleurs chroniques et du syndrome fibromyalgique, ainsi que celui des thérapies s’adressant aux fascias et notamment la fasciathérapie méthode Danis Bois.
