Purpose of Project: The ultimate goal of this short-term pilot project is for
overweight or obese osteoarthritis patients to increase their knowledge on the benefits of
weight loss and physical activity. Research shows that for every kilogram of weight lost,
2.2–4.0 kilograms of weight is taken off of the joint and could reduce joint pain up to
thirty to fifty percent and improve quality of life. Following education from the provider,
patients will understand the correlation of osteoarthritis symptom management with
weight loss.

The Horticultural Therapy (HT) profession has been formally organized in the United States since 1973. Despite the long history of horticulture being used as therapy, the profession of HT in the United States has not advanced as quickly as other allied healthcare professions. This study will review the current challenges and opportunities for HT and HT education in the United States.

Healing touch (HT) is a non-invasive energy therapy used in the management of symptoms of various health conditions. HT utilization has demonstrated enhanced comfort and relief of symptoms such as chronic pain, post-traumatic-stress, depression, and anxiety. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to promote awareness and appointment compliance rate of HT amongst veterans, and also to determine effectiveness of HT intervention on symptom relief and well-being.
