High-Risk Advanced Maternal Age And High Parity Pregnancy: Tackling A Neglected Need Through Formative Research And Action., Khadidiatou Ndiaye, Erin Portillo, Dieneba Ouedraogo, Allison Mobley, Stella Babalola

Global Health Faculty Publications

Pregnancy among women of advanced maternal age (those 35 years or older) or among women of high parity (those having had 5 or more births) is linked to maternal and infant mortality. Yet little is known about the drivers of these pregnancies as they are often neglected in existing family planning and reproductive health programs. To better understand the context in which advanced maternal age and high parity pregnancies occur and the acceptability of discussing associated pregnancy risks, the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) conducted formative qualitative research between January and March 2015 on the perception and determinants of such …

Women’S Healthcare In Cuba, Hannah M. Van Curen

Student Works

Cuba’s healthcare system has been an important discussion since it became socialized in 1965. The seemingly prestigious and highly criticized system has had global impact: from the break of tradition from conservative Latin American countries, to the almost idyllic approach Cuba has taken proving socialism can exist. This paper explores the major differences between Cuba’s and America’s approach to women’s healthcare. This paper examines different aspects of women's health care through interviews of locals and observation of different clinics around the island. The topics include maternity leave, child care, abortions, and sex education. While there is varying discussion on how …

In low-resource settings, most women are not routinely tested for infections and autopsy is rare.
Methods: This prospective, cohort study will be conducted in hospitals in Davengere, India and Karachi, Pakistan. All women who deliver either a stillbirth or a preterm birth at one of the hospitals will be eligible for enrollment. …

Development Of A Survey To Examine The Association Between Relationship Status And Human Papillomavirus Vaccination Behavior, Ansley Waters

Senior Honors Projects, 2010-2019

Literature: HPV is the most prevalent STI in the United States. Although a vaccine to prevent HPV infection exists, only 49.5% of females were up-to-date on the recommended vaccination HPV vaccination series in 2016. Though recommended for younger individuals, there is a catch-up period for females ages 18-26, which shows consistent under-participation. One potential risk factor for non-vaccination may be relationship status. Unlike other sexual health issues where monogamous, long-term relationships serve as a protective factor, such relationships may negatively impact HPV infection risk perception. Building from previous qualitative research, this study examined the quantitative association between relationship status and …

An Investigation Into The Relationship Between Spirituality And Coping Responses Among Women With A Visual Impairment, Sandra Marie Bullins

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine coping responses, specifically by women, and the relationship between those coping responses and a woman’s self-reported spirituality. The sample was comprised of women (n = 175) from the United States and 10 foreign countries. The results of a correlational analysis showed a strong positive relationship (r= 0.46, p<0.0001) between scores on the Spirituality Assessment Scale (SAS) and the Brief Cope (BC). There were also statistically significant correlations among subscales of the SAS and BC subscales. A multivariate analysis of variance was performed to evaluate the impact that select demographic variables might have on spirituality and coping responses. The results of the MANOVA showed no effect and were not statistically significant at alpha 0.1.
