Impact Of Primary Care Healthcare Providers Patient Electronic Medical Records Completion Rates Using Speech Recognition Dictation, Pepper Losely
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Completion of electronic medical records (EMRs) is an ongoing problem for providers, facilities, and insurance reimbursement. Current completion of EMRs lack standardized processes to make EMRs completion easier for providers with their busy workday and allow optimal time for patient care.
PICOT: For healthcare providers at primary clinics (P) will implementing speech recognition dictation (SRD) for data entry into the electronic medical records (EMRs) (I) compared to the current practice of manually typing all data causing long medical record turnaround times (c) improve medical record completion within 30 days (O) over 10-weeks (T).
Evidence: Evidence that was …
Improving Patient Awareness And Compliance With Telephone Follow-Up Calls Post Visit, Ajibola Kutti
Improving Patient Awareness And Compliance With Telephone Follow-Up Calls Post Visit, Ajibola Kutti
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: In a high-volume clinic without current follow up practices post visit, a telephone follow-up (TFU) intervention was implemented within three days of patient outpatient appointments.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: In adult patients in a high-volume clinic (P), does the implementation of telephone follow-up calls by nurses (I) compared to current practices (C) improve patient compliance and post-office follow-up visits (O) over 10-weeks (T)?
Evidence: The literature provided recommendations and evidence that supported the effectiveness of following up with patients within three days of leaving the healthcare clinic. TFU’s are a cost-effective intervention that …
Improving Access To Cardiac Catheterization, Sunitha Dharman
Improving Access To Cardiac Catheterization, Sunitha Dharman
Student Scholarly Projects
The American Heart Association lists cardiovascular disease as the underlying cause of death for 874,613 people who lost their lives in 2019 (Tsao et al., 2022). On average, someone in the United States has a myocardial infarction every 40 seconds, and someone dies of a stroke every 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Studies support coronary artery disease as a significant contributor to cardiac arrest in a non-hospital setting (Yannopoulos et al., 2019). The authors provide evidence supporting the importance of early cardiac catheterization. There is a 10-15% survival rate with a higher level of functioning compared to delayed or no …
Implementation Of A Hospital-Wide Surge Plan To Reduce Emergency Department Length Of Stay, Laura Massey
Implementation Of A Hospital-Wide Surge Plan To Reduce Emergency Department Length Of Stay, Laura Massey
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Suboptimal patient flow throughout the hospital has resulted in an increased length of stay (LOS) for emergency department patients and the potential for adverse events.
PICOT: In admitted and discharged emergency room patients (P), how does a hospital-wide surge plan (I) compared to current throughput plan (C) affect the length of stay (O) within 8 weeks?
Evidence: The literature evidence reviewed supported the implementation of a hospital-wide surge plan approach positively impacts the emergency room length of stay and patient outcomes.
Intervention: The primary intervention for this project was the implementation of a hospital-wide surge policy. Targeted …
Quality Reporting On Dialysis Water Testing And Dialysis Machine Disinfection, Jennifer Boquiren Quitevis
Quality Reporting On Dialysis Water Testing And Dialysis Machine Disinfection, Jennifer Boquiren Quitevis
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Kidney failure affects 0.1% - 0.2% of the general population, yet the dialysis expenditure is 5%-7% of total healthcare budget spending. The increased incidence of chronic disease will result in more End Stage Renal Disease patients on dialysis along with more comorbidities. Thus, it is imperative for health organizations to have well established protocols and guidelines to manage the care of the dialysis patient.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: in patients receiving dialysis at an acute care dialysis unit (P), does utilizing a Standardized Policy for Quality Reporting on Dialysis Water Testing and …
Development And Implementation Of An Opioid Risk-Reduction Strategy, Heather Darmetko
Development And Implementation Of An Opioid Risk-Reduction Strategy, Heather Darmetko
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Accidental overdose is a continued concern for those who are prescribed opioids, and it is essential that healthcare members intensify prevention and response measures in order to prevent death or misuse from this medication.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: “In adult patients at an outpatient chronic pain management clinic (P), how does development and implementation of a safe opioid risk-reduction office policy (I), compared to usual practice (C), improve patient rates of naloxone availability and health literacy (O) over eight weeks (T)?”
Evidence: The CDC’s Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain, the …
A Safety Program In A Tertiary Care Center Emergency Department: An Evidence-Based Project To Increase Safety Event Reporting And Improve Frontline Staff Perceptions Of Hospital Management’S Response To Safety Events, Elizabeth Anne Mcmaster
A Safety Program In A Tertiary Care Center Emergency Department: An Evidence-Based Project To Increase Safety Event Reporting And Improve Frontline Staff Perceptions Of Hospital Management’S Response To Safety Events, Elizabeth Anne Mcmaster
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: The lack of a non-punitive safety culture with a healthcare organization is associated with decreased safety event reporting, reimbursement rates, and staff satisfaction.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: In emergency department frontline staff, does hospital management involvement in a safety event program, contrasted with no safety event program, improve frontline staff’s reporting of safety events and perceptions of hospital management’s response to safety events management involvement over four weeks?
Evidence: Three overlapping themes that guided this project included: improving organizational culture, open communication, and leadership support in promoting patient safety.
Intervention: A safety event …
Reducing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection Project, Beatriz Agado
Reducing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection Project, Beatriz Agado
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are prevalent and responsible for an estimated 13,000 deaths annually in the United States. Reported cases of CAUTIs remain disproportionately high at a rehabilitation center located in South Texas.
PICOT: This evidence-based project answered the following question: In rehabilitation patients, what is the effect of a nurse-driven protocol (NDP) CAUTI bundle on the number of indwelling urinary catheter-related infections, compared to the current practice, over a 12-week time period?
Evidence: Twenty high-quality studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria recommended using an NDP CAUTI bundle, education, and champions to …
