In the event of an acute ischemic stroke, 1.9 million neurons are lost in the brain per minute. Since the inception of thrombolytic therapy and mechanical thrombectomy as effective tools in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, the focal point of quality improvement in this field has become the time to treatment delivery. OBJECTIVES: Although COVID-19 vaccines offer protection against infection and severe disease, there is limited information on the effect of vaccination on prolonged symptoms following COVID-19. Our objective was to determine differences in prevalence of prolonged symptoms 6 weeks after onset of COVID-19 among healthcare personnel (HCP) by vaccination status, and to assess differences in timing of return to work.

DESIGN: Cohort analysis of HCP with COVID-19 enrolled in a multicentre vaccine effectiveness study. HCP with COVID-19 between December 2020 and August 2021 were followed up 6 weeks after illness onset.

SETTING: Health systems in 12 US states.

A 67-year-old male with metastatic lung cancer presented with acute shortness of breath and increasing oxygen requirements. He had a decreasing hemoglobin for which he required red blood cell transfusions. His chest x-ray showed near complete white-out of the left lung. Bedside ultrasound (Handheld Sonostar C4PL) showed a large pleural effusion with swirling echogenic material suggestive of plankton sign. The pleural effusion was aspirated and showed frank blood, after which a small-bore chest tube (SBCT) was inserted. A total of 3200ml of blood was drained with the SBCT. Firefighters are often exposed to traumatic events such as high temperatures, heavy fumes, and toxic gases during rescue services. The challenges require firefighters to have a higher level of physical performance compared to a typical person. In urbanized settings, weight-bearing staging is a necessary skill for firefighters. Background and purpose Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs in approximately 30,000 patients annually in the United States. Uncontrolled blood pressure is a major risk factor for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Clinical guidelines recommend maintaining blood pressure control until definitive aneurysm securement occurs. It is unknown whether racial differences exist regarding blood pressure control and outcomes (HLOS, discharge disposition) in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. BACKGROUND: Brachytherapy (BT) was the first radiotherapeutic technique used to treat human disease and remains an essential modality in radiation oncology. A decline in the utilization of BT as a treatment modality has been observed and reported, which may impact training opportunities for medical physics residents. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is closely related to various cellular aspects associated with autophagy. However, how SARS-CoV-2 mediates the subversion of the macroautophagy/autophagy pathway remains largely unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that overexpression of the SARS-CoV-2 ORF7a protein activates LC3-II and leads to the accumulation of autophagosomes in multiple cell lines, while knockdown of the viral ORF7a gene via shRNAs targeting ORF7a sgRNA during SARS-CoV-2 infection decreased autophagy levels. Mechanistically, the ORF7a protein initiates autophagy via the AKT-MTOR-ULK1-mediated pathway, but ORF7a limits the progression of autophagic flux by activating CASP3 (caspase 3) to cleave the …

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder characterized by repeated episodes of apnea and hypopnea during sleep. Snoring and daytime sleepiness are the most common manifestations of OSA. Patients with OSA are considered to have poor cardiopulmonary function. Exercise has been proposed as a treatment for OSA that could lower apnea hypopnea indices (AHI) and improve sleep quality. To investigate the independent and combined associations of physical activity and sedentary time on sleep quality among Chinese PE-majored and non-PE-majored college students. Participants were Chinese college students (N = 2347, M_age = 20 years, 24.6% students majoring in PE). All participants completed three questionnaires: the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form, and the Questionnaire on Adolescent Sedentary Behavior. The participants were 217 children (50.7% female) from a primary school in Shanghai.
