Over a period of ten weeks, stories and activities going on in Tokyo, Japan, were followed to identify pressing urban health issues in the city. Osteoporosis and low bone density are common among older adults; women are more likely to have osteoporosis and low bone density than men. The prevalence of osteoporosis and low bone density varies with race/ethnicity, with the greatest prevalence being among non-Hispanic, Asian women. Prior studies identified a negative association between smoking and changes in bone mineral density; however, the association between smoking and osteoporosis or low bone density has not been investigated according to race/ethnicity.

Thailand has struggled with malnutrition rates in young children. Rice is a key component of Southeast Asian diets and a whole grain rice varietal (Sin Lek) may support improved nutrition. Diet can influence cognitive function and human gut microbiota, which were explored in the context of a rice intervention. Context/background: In July 2020, recognizing the potential negative interaction between COVID-19 quarantine and medical and social needs, Oregon Health & Science University Family Medicine at Richmond developed a workflow to support clinic patients with acute social and medical needs who test positive for COVID-19. The workflow relies on Community Health Workers (CHWs) who call these patients and ask questions intended to identify social and medical needs. Within this workflow, patients with identified needs are connected by CHWs to community resources. Mass incarceration, the dramatic increase in incarcerated people over the past four decades, disproportionately impacts Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low-income communities in the United States. South Africa (SA) has the world’s highest burden of HIV infection, with an estimated 13.7% of the population living with HIV (PLWH/Persons Living With HIV). The early identification of PLWH and rapid engagement of them in HIV treatment are indispensable tools in the fight against HIV transmission. Aim To evaluate whether dietary pattern changes, antioxidant supplementation or 5-10% weight loss could improve disease activity (skin and joint) in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Methods A total of 97 PsA patients were enrolled in this 12-week randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial. Patients were randomized into three groups: Diet-placebo (hypocaloric diet + placebo supplementation); Diet-fish (hypocaloric diet + 3 g/day of omega-3 supplementation; and Placebo. Patient and providers' fear of fetal exposure to medications may lead to discontinuation of treatment, disease relapse, and maternal morbidity. Placental drug transporters play a critical role in fetal exposure through active transport but the majority of data are limited to the 3rd trimester, when the majority of organogenesis has already occurred. Our objective was to define gestational age (GA) dependent changes in protein activity, expression and modifications of five major placental drug transporters: SERT, P-gp, NET, BCRP and MRP3. Overcrowded Housing Increases Risk For Covid-19 Mortality: An Ecological Study., Karan Varshney, Talia Glodjo, Jenna Adalbert

OBJECTIVES: Overcrowded housing is a sociodemographic variable associated with increased infection and mortality rates from communicable diseases. It is not well understood if this association exists for COVID-19. Our objective was hence to determine the association between household overcrowding and risk of mortality from COVID-19, and this was done by performing bivariable and multivariable analyses using COVID-19 data from cities in Los Angeles County.

RESULTS: Bivariate regression revealed that overcrowded households were positively associated with COVID-19 deaths (standardized β = 0.863, p < 0.001). COVID-19 case totals, people aged 60+, and the number of overcrowded households met conditions for inclusion in the backwards stepwise linear regression model. Analysis revealed all independent variables were positively associated with mortality rates, primarily for individuals 60 + (standardized β
