BACKGROUND: Follow-up visits with clinic providers after hospital discharge may not be feasible for some patients due to functional limitations, transportation challenges, need for physical distancing, or fear of exposure especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

METHODS: The aim of the study was to determine the effects of post-hospital clinic (POSH) and telephone (TPOSH) follow-up provider visits versus no visit on 30-day readmission. We used a retrospective cohort design based on data from 1/1/2017 to 12/31/2019 on adult patients (n = 213,513) discharged home from 15 Kaiser Permanente Southern California hospitals. Background: Lack of programmatic support and supervision is one of the underlying reasons of the poor performance of Pakistan's Lady Health Worker Program (LHWP). This study describes the findings and potential for scale-up of a supportive supervision intervention in two districts of Pakistan for improving LHWs skills for integrated community case management (iCCM) of childhood diarrhea and pneumonia.

Sustainable Development Goal 3.2 has targeted elimination of preventable child mortality, reduction of neonatal death to less than 12 per 1000 livebirths, and reduction of death of children younger than 5 years to less than 25 per 1000 livebirths, for each country by 2030. Background: Storytelling is an intervention for health communication that has many forms, addresses varied health issues, and is suitable for low health-literate populations. Storytelling can impact knowledge, behaviors, attitudes, and health outcomes. Population Focus: Fictional storytelling has not been researched as an educational adaption in diabetes self-management for Hispanics with low health literacy. Forty-one percent of Hispanics in the United States have low health literacy, a contributing factor to poor health outcomes in chronic disease management. The increased demand of sugarcane in Costa Rica and the lack of occupational opportunities in Nicaragua has resulted in an increase in migrant sugarcane workers. Because many individuals cannot afford proper documentation for immigration, a significant number cross the border undocumented looking for financial stability. The vast availability of sugarcane work in Costa Rica provides Nicaraguan migrants with an opportunity for work, however, they are often paid less than minimum wage due to their undocumented immigration status. Background: The Philippines enacted in 2014 Republic Act No. 10643 that mandated the printing of Graphic Health Warnings on tobacco packages. However, smoking behavior among male smokers in the country, particularly in rural and low-income areas, persists even if the Graphic Health Warnings are according to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization. Hence, this explanatory case study aims to examine why and how most male adult smokers in a rural and low-income setting in the Philippines fail to quit smoking despite the presence of Graphic Health Warnings on tobacco packages.

However, only about 24% of US adults meet recommended guidelines of physical activity, with traditionally disadvantaged populations such as rural residents and persons of color facing even lower rates. We investigated the effect of an antenatal lifestyle intervention of a low-glycaemic index (GI) diet and physical activity on energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DIITM) and explored its relationship with maternal and child health in women with overweight and obesity. This was a secondary analysis of 434 mother−child pairs from the Pregnancy Exercise and Nutrition Study (PEARS) trial in Dublin, Ireland. E-DII^TM scores were calculated for early (10–16 weeks) and late (28 weeks) pregnancy. Outcomes included lipids, inflammation markers, insulin resistance, mode of delivery, infant size, pre-eclampsia, and gestational diabetes. T-tests were used to assess changes in E-DII^TM. …

METHODS: We enrolled 30 ASD cases, age 2-12 years old, and 30 age- and sex-matched typically developing (TD) controls in Karachi, Pakistan. Introduction: Preterm birth (PTB) is a leading contributor to infant death globally and in the United States. The biological mechanisms and etiologies for PTB are not well understood making prevention challenging. The correlation between increased number of women in the workforce and increased incidence of PTB in the U.S. inspired a thorough review of occupational risk factors that may contribute to shortened gestational length.
