Data was downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet which appeared in the Public Use Datasets section under the Cumulative Data link of Michigan's Coronavirus webpage, under the url https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/0,9753,7-406-98163_98173---,00.html.

Cases are aggregated by the date of onset of COVID-19 symptoms, if known, otherwise by laboratory specimen date if known, otherwise by case referral date. Deaths are aggregated by the date of death if known, otherwise by the last date of a change to the case status.

The Population Council has developed and introduced several of the world’s most effective and popular contraceptive methods, including the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG IUS). Through the International Contraceptive Access (ICA) Foundation, a public-private foundation based in Finland, the Council supports LNG IUS distribution to women in over 35 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in partnership with international and local organizations. Over 150,000 LNG IUS units have been delivered to date at no cost, laying the groundwork for method introduction in LMICs and further expanding access to safe, long-acting, reversible contraception.

A recent Project SOAR study evaluated community-based delivery of antiretroviral treatment to female sex workers (FSWs) in Tanzania, demonstrating the value of this approach to improve HIV care. Informed by these findings, the Government of Tanzania changed national guidance to allow for community-based HIV treatment to better meet the needs of marginalized populations, including FSWs.

Anemia in women of reproductive age is highly prevalent globally and remains a public health problem. In Ethiopia, despite efforts to minimize the burden of anemia, it is still a moderate public health problem. Anemia has various etiologies including nutritional deficiency, parasitic infection, and inflammation. The aim of this study was to examine contributing factors to anemia in lactating women. Following ethical approval, and six months after delivery, all lactating women (n = 150) were recruited to participate in this study from eight randomly selected rural villages. The current COVID-19 crisis has exposed new and existing issues related to access and equity for our students and families. The following article discusses a model for interconnecting educators, families, and community health workers (CHW) that can integrate diversity and equity for practitioners and educator preparation programs. Integrating CHWs provides a unique opportunity to utilize their cultural responsive skills and knowledge. Implications for practitioners and educator preparation programs are discussed.

Cesarean delivery reduces the risk of infant and maternal morbidity and mortality when medically indicated, however, the cesarean delivery rate is estimated to be two to three times higher than medically necessary. The World Health Organization and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have expressed concern over the high rates of cesarean delivery, citing evidence that cesarean delivery has negative short- and long-term consequences for the health of the infant, mother, and for future pregnancies. Background: The quality of contraceptive counseling that women receive from their provider can influence their future contraceptive continuation. We examined (1) whether the quality of contraceptive service provision could be measured in a consistent way by using existing tools from 2 large-scale social franchises, and (2) whether facility quality measures based on these tools were consistently associated with contraceptive discontinuation.
Methods: We linked existing, routinely collected facility audit data from social franchise clinics in Pakistan and Uganda with client data. Clients were women aged 15-49 who initiated a modern, reversible contraceptive method from a sampled clinic. Consented participants completed an …

Background: Current testing of symptomatic patients for SARS-CoV-2 involves the use of nucleic acid amplification tests, also known as genetic, RNA, or polymerase chain reaction (PCR), to detect viral RNA. The initial use of point of care (POC) antibody tests, also known as serological tests, in the management of SARS-CoV-2 infection was limited. In this review, we determine the significance of POC antibody serological tests and explore their possible role in the diagnosis and management of patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The Healthy Community Living (HCL) program combines independent living skills training with health promotion to support self-determination and health status of adults with disabilities. It includes two workshop curricula, Community Living Skills and Living Well in the Community. Each of these provides a framework for workshop participants to increase peer support while building their individual capacity to live independently and maintain their health. The HCL Program weaves consumer choice and control throughout all of the workshop sessions by guiding consumers to identify their own goals, intentions, and process for reaching them. The COVID-19 pandemic forced organizations working in the field of disability research and program development to adapt when in-person services were suspended at Centers for Independent Living (CILs). One way this adaption occurred was by embracing collaborative problem-solving using a participatory curriculum development (PCD) approach. PCD requires consistent and continued stakeholder engagement. These practices align with Knowledge translation (KT) in that KT requires continued investment to adapt to the ever-changing contexts for which interventions are originally designed.

Influence Of Incentive Design And Organizational Characteristics On Wellness Participation And Health Outcomes, Jessica Grossmeier, David J. Mangen, David R. Anderson, Stefan B. Gingerich, Rebecca J. Mitchell, Mary T. Imboden, Gordon D. Kaplan, Gregg M. Gascon, Seth A. Serxner, Tony Bodak

Faculty Publications - Department of Kinesiology

Objective: To explore how changing incentive designs influence wellness participation and health outcomes.

Methods: Aggregated retrospective data were evaluated using cluster analysis to group 174 companies into incentive design types. Numerous statistical models assessed between-group differences in wellness participation, earning incentives, and over-time differences in health outcomes.

Results: Four incentive design groups based on requirements for earning incentives were identified. The groups varied in support for and participation in wellness initiatives within each company. All four design types were associated with improved low density lipoprotein (LDL)(P < 0.01), three with improved blood pressure (P < 0.001), and two with improved fasting glucose (P < 0.03). No incentive plan types were associated with improved body mass index (BMI), but designs predominantly focused on health outcomes (eg, Outcomes-Focused) exhibited a significant increase over time in BMI risk.

Conclusion: Incentive design and organizational characteristics impact population-level participation and health outcomes.
