Background. Snack is a source of nutrition for children in school. However, special snack foods sold in elementary schools are not always safe, and are also susceptible to contamination with Escherichia coli. Methods. Therefore, this study was conducted to understand the relationship of primary school children's snacks sanitation in Medan Satria and Jati Asih Subdistricts, Bekasi City with E.coli contamination in snacks using Cross Sectional design. Vaccine hesitancy has been recognized as an important barrier to timely vaccinations around the world, including in sub-Saharan Africa. In Tanzania, 1 in 4 children is not fully vaccinated. The objective of this mixed methods study was to describe and contextualize parental concerns towards vaccines in Tanzania.

Methods

Between 2016 and 2017, we conducted a cross-sectional survey (n = 134) and four focus group discussions (FGDs, n = 38) with mothers of children under 2 years of age residing in Mtwara region in Southern Tanzania. Background: The BRANCH Consortium recently conducted 10 mixed-methods case studies to investigate the provision of health and nutrition interventions for women and children in conflict-affected countries, aiming to better understand the dominant influences on humanitarian health actors' programmatic decision-making and how such actors surmount intervention delivery barriers. In this paper, the research challenges encountered and the mitigating strategies employed by the case study investigators in four of the BRANCH case study contexts are discussed: Somalia, Mali, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Nebraska births between 1995 and 2005 were followed until 2018 to look for intergenerational associations of low birth weight (LBW) and preterm birth (PTB). Results from generalized estimating equations revealed that mothers born LBW preterm were more likely to deliver LBW (adjusted OR 1.94, 95% CI 1.39–2.71) or preterm (adjusted OR 1.65, 95% CI 1.20–2.27) than mothers born with normal weight or at term. In addition, mothers who had an LBW sibling were 44% more likely to have an LBW infant (OR 1.44, 95% CI 1.04–2.00). A consistent finding was also observed for mothers who had a PTB sibling (OR …

Objectives. We sought to determine the prevalence of food insecurity using food insecurity experience-based scales (FIES) and frequency consumption of fruit and vegetable in households with preschool-aged children.
