This study compared electromyographic (EMG) amplitude, the number of repetitions completed, and exercise volume during three sets to failure of high- (80% 1RM) versus low-load (30% 1RM) forearm flexion resistance exercise on a subject-by-subject basis. Fifteen men were familiarized, completed forearm flexion 1RM testing. Forty-eight to 72 h later, the subjects completed three sets to failure of dumbbell forearm flexion resistance exercise with 80% (n = 8) or 30% (n = 7) 1RM. Background: Prenatal exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) has been associated with lower birth weight in epidemiologic studies. This association could be attributable to glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is related to PFAS concentration and birth weight.

Objectives: We used a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model of pregnancy to assess how much of the PFAS–birth weight association observed in epidemiologic studies might be attributable to GFR.

In particular, rural communities in Maine may face challenges for families to access dental services for their children given low reimbursement rates and fewer available providers. This project addresses these gaps in knowledge by examining MaineCare- funded utilization and dental care access for children with MaineCare in four rural Maine towns in the Lakes Region.

Dengue fever is a disease affecting people in more than 100 countries. Here we consider a host and vector model for the transmission of dengue fever. This SIR model consists of three compartments of susceptible, infective and removed for host (human) and two compartments of susceptible and infective for vector (dengue mosquitos). These five compartments yield five coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). After non-dimensionalization, we have a system of three nonlinear ODEs. OBJECTIVE:

To examine and compare tobacco marketing in 16 countries while the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control requires parties to implement a comprehensive ban on such marketing.

METHODS:

Between 2009 and 2012, a kilometre-long walk was completed by trained investigators in 462 communities across 16 countries to collect data on tobacco marketing. We interviewed community members about their exposure to traditional and non-traditional marketing in the previous six months. To examine differences in marketing between urban and rural communities and between high-, middle- and low-income countries, we used multilevel regression models controlling for potential confounders.

The Model for End Stage Liver Disease (MELD), used for prioritizing liver transplantation, predicts mortality from liver disease. Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk disease progression not reflected in their MELD score. Exception scores prioritize HCC patients higher than their MELD scores, but advantage them over non-HCC patients. To address this, a delay of six months for using exception scores has been implemented, and alternative HCC-specific scores have been developed. Using multistate models, this study projects waitlist dropout and transplant probabilities under the delay and under two alternative scores. Background: Exposure to perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) or to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) increases mouse and human peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor alpha (PPARα) subtype activity, which influences lipid metabolism. Because cholesterol is the substrate from which testosterone is synthesized, exposure to these substances has the potential to alter testosterone concentrations.

Objectives: We explored associations of total testosterone and sex hormone–binding globulin (SHBG) concentrations at age 15 years with prenatal exposures to PFOS, PFOA, perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), and perfluoronanoic acid (PFNA) in females.

This study observed the relationship between television consumption and child obesity through the theoretical construct of Putnam’s displacement hypothesis. It did so by updating the previous research through the investigation of the displacement of both physical activity and advertisements on contemporary television platforms. The inclusion of Putnam’s displacement hypothesis was to provide a foundational framework, not found in previous literature, to study two important paradigms that were represented in previous research: 1) the displacement of physical activity; and 2) the displacement of traditional advertisement exposure.

Mothers reported engaging in other activities during 52% of feedings; television watching was the most prevalent activity reported. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain potong lintang pada 94 petani perempuan usia subur tahun 2015. Pengumpulan data dilakukan secara observasi, wawancara, dan uji kolinesterase. Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Utara masih dihadapkan dengan permasalahan gizi pada anak bawah dua tahun (baduta). Salah satu masalah gizi hingga saat ini adalah stunting. Anak dengan riwayat berat badan lahir rendah (BBLR) merupakan salah satu faktor yang potensial memengaruhi pertumbuhan anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji risiko riwayat berat badan lahir dengan kejadian stunting pada anak baduta. Desain penelitian adalah potong lintang. Populasi penelitian ini merupakan ibu-ibu yang memiliki anak baduta dan besar sampel sejumlah 117 terdiri dari anak baduta. Pelaksanaan penelitian dilakukan selama tiga bulan pada bulan September – November 2014. Kategori BBLR jika riwayat berat badan lahir < 2.500 gram. Analisis data bivariat menggunakan uji kai kuadrat dan data multivariat menggunakan uji regresi logistik. Hasil analisis bivariat menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara riwayat status BBLR (nilai p = 0,015) dengan stunting pada anak baduta. Berdasarkan hasil analisis multivariat, diperoleh bahwa BBLR merupakan faktor risiko yang paling dominan berhubungan dengan kejadian stunting. Anak dengan BBLR memiliki risiko 5,87 kali untuk mengalami stunting. Riwayat BBLR memiliki peranan penting dalam kejadian stunting anak baduta di wilayah Puskesmas Sungai Karias, Hulu Sungai Utara. North Hulu Sungai District is still facing nutrition problems among children under two years old. One of nutrition problems up to now is stunting. Child with low birthweight (LBW) record is one of potential factors influencing the growth of a child. This study aimed to assess any risk of LBW records with stunting incidence among children under two years old. This study used cross-sectional design. The population was mothers having children under two years old and samples amounted to 117 consisted of children under two years old. This study was conducted within three months on September – November 2014. Category of LBW was if birth weight records < 2,500 gram. Bivariate data analysis used chi-square test and multivariate data analysis used logistic regression test. The result of bivariate analysis showed a significant relation between LBW status records (p value = 0.015) with stunting incidence among children under two years old. Based on the result of multivariate analysis, LBW was the most dominating risk factor related to stunting incidence. Children with LBW had 5.87 times risk of suffering from stunting. LBW records take an important role in stunting incidence among children under two years old around Sungai Karias Primary Health Care area in North Hulu Sungai.

Pre-eklampsia berat, salah satu penyebab utama kematian ibu di Indonesia dan di RSUD Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek Lampung, merupakan penyebab kematian ibu nomor satu (47,25%). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan prediktor pre-eklampsi berat (PEB) yang dinilai dari tekanan darah sistolik, tekanan darah diastolik, proteiunuria, eklampsia, sindrom hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets count (HELLP) dengan kematian ibu di RSUD Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kasus kontrol dengan jumlah sampel 60 kasus dan 120 kontrol. Data diolah dari rekam medis rumah sakit selama periode lima tahun (2010 – 2014).
