One of the most common challenges faced by people living with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a low quality of life, particularly during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, as they are considered a vulnerable group. Structural gamification is a trending concept in today’s application landscape that leverages various elements and features from game design for nongame contexts. This concept has become increasingly common in various health applications today, such as Lose It!, Fat Secret, and Google Fit. This study aims to evaluate respondents’ use of structural gamification- based health applications. Introduction: In the United States, hospitals in rural areas have been under financial pressure and have been closing at an increasing rate.  This reduces access to care for rural citizens.  The Affordable Care Act of 2010 was passed in order to increase access to medical care, partially through an optional expansion of Medicaid coverage to a larger percentage of the population.  As some states adopted the expansion and some states did not, an opportunity was created to examine the policy’s effect on rural hospital stability.

Background/Purpose

Asian populations in the U.S. demonstrate lower adherence to diabetes management guidelines compared to other racial groups. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends a minimum of two annual A1C tests to manage diabetes effectively. This study examines racial disparities in adherence to these guidelines, focusing on the impact of immigration-related factors and patient perceptions of provider communication. The findings aim to identify barriers and inform strategies to enhance diabetes management and improve patient-provider interactions in underserved communities.
