Herbal teas and plant-based medicines have been widely used worldwide for their therapeutic and healing qualities. Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) has various benefits in preventing digestive problems, liver disease, fever, and others. Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) or known as jahe in Indonesia is believed to benefit numerous clinical conditions linked to oxidative stress, including pancreatitis, hypertension, diabetic kidney disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and tumor development. They have been utilized in traditional medical practice to treat conditions such as fever, nausea, and headaches. In this study, we aimed to determine the antioxidant activities of rosella flower tea, ginger tea, and …

Background

Carum carvi (caraway) of the Apiaceae family has been used in many cultures as a cooking spice and part of the folk medicine. Previous reports primarily focus on the medicinal properties of caraway seed essential oil and the whole seeds extract. However, no effort has been made to study caraway proteins and their potential pharmacological properties, including nonspecific lipid transfer protein (nsLTP), necessitating further research. The current study aimed to characterize nonspecific lipid transfer protein 1 (nsLTP1) from caraway seed, determine its three-dimensional structure, and analyze protein–ligand complex interactions through docking studies. We also evaluated nsLTP1 in vitro cytotoxic …

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that exhibited great expansion all over the world. It is becoming an epidemic disease adding a major burden to the health care system, particularly in developing countries.

Methods: The plant under investigation in the current study Phragmanthera austroarabica A. G. Mill and J. A. Nyberg is traditionally used in Saudi Arabia for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The methanolic extract (200 mg/kg) of the plant and pure gallic acid (40 mg/kg), a major metabolite of the plant, as well as their silver nanoparticle formulae (AgNPs) were evaluated for their antidiabetic activity.
