Several derivatives carrying thiazolidine-4-one pharmacophore were prepared to evaluate their antimicrobial activities. The set of compounds were shown to possess potential activities as determined by molecular docking studies for both candidal (14-alpha demethylase) and bacterial enzymes (Penicillin binding protein of E. coli). In vitro antimicrobial activities were also performed to confirm the molecular docking results. Molecular characterization by spectral techniques (FT-IR, 13C NMR and 1H NMR) was carried out to confirm the identity of the synthesized compounds. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for antibacterial and anticandidal activity by comparing them with the reference drugs (positive controls) ceftriaxone …

Al-Mustaqbal Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences

A category of inherited blood illnesses known as beta-thalassemias are defined by abnormalities in the synthesis of hemoglobin beta chains, which can result in a wide range of phenotypes, from severe anemia to people who show no symptoms at all. People who have thalassemia major typically experience severe anemia during the first two years of life, necessitating frequent red blood cell (RBC) transfusions.

Management of individuals with β-thalassemia is centered on appropriate, safe blood transfusions (free of transfusion-transmitted illnesses) and prevention of iron excess. Complications from iron overload are brought on by routine transfusion therapy.

This study is a retrospective …

Al-Mustaqbal Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences

The worldwide outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic compelled scientists to develop new, highly effective therapeutic approaches to fight it. Multitarget drugs have been proven to be effective in managing complex disorders. But designing multitarget drugs is a great challenge. In this study, to prevent a lack of efficacy due to viral mutation escape, a multi-target agent against the COVID-19 virus was discovered. As crucial targets, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), COVID-19 main protease (Mpro), and SARS-CoV-2 Nsp15 were selected. A pharmacophore model was developed using the native ligands of the chosen targets. This model was used to screen the ZINC Drug …

Knowledge And Attitude Of Lebanese Adults Towards Asthma In Beirut, Lebanon, Farah Hatem Haidar, Doaa Issa, Maha Aboul Ela, Karim Raafat

BAU Journal - Health and Wellbeing

Asthma, a serious global health problem, has been an area of interest due to its increasing prevalence, expanding treatment costs, and rising burden on patients and the community. Since asthma cannot be cured, clinical episodes can be prevented and controlled by adequate management and sufficient knowledge of the disease. Appropriate treatment may relieve asthma symptoms and improve quality of life. However, poor knowledge of asthma disease and medication use, misdiagnoses, misuse of inhalers and inadequate self-management of disease symptoms may have a greater impact on the disease process. Therefore, assessment of the population’s knowledge and attitude toward asthma is essential. …

A New Approach To Balance Dental Fear And Anxiety By Using Bachtm Flower Therapy, Irina Maria Gheorghiu, Alexandru Andrei Iliescu, Stana Paunica, Marina Giurgiu, Brandusa Mocanu, George Alexandru Popescu, Anca Silvia Dumitriu

Journal of Mind and Medical Sciences

Treatments in dentistry currently consist of an interdisciplinary approach, including (but not necessarily limited to) the holistic perspective. The different fields of allopathic and complementary medicine are used together to ensure not only a high-quality restorative treatment, but also to provide patients with psychological and emotional support. This perspective also applies to dental anxiety, which consists of complex (emotional, vegetative and psychomotor) manifestations. One of the most well-known complementary therapies for reducing dental fear and anxiety is BachTM Flower Therapy. Even if the mechanism of action of this therapy is not yet scientifically documented, notable results have been and continue …

Management Of Keloid-Associated Pruritus With Topical Crisaborole 2% Ointment: A Case Report, Daniel A. Nguyen, Elizabeth Thai Ms, Stephen E. Weis Apr 2024

Management Of Keloid-Associated Pruritus With Topical Crisaborole 2% Ointment: A Case Report, Daniel A. Nguyen, Elizabeth Thai Ms, Stephen E. Weis

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Introduction

The pathophysiology of keloid formation is poorly understood, and current treatments, including intralesional corticosteroids, cryotherapy, and surgery, are often associated with high resistance to treatment and recurrence. The multifactorial pathogenesis of keloid formation suggests that aberrant inflammatory cytokine signaling associated with keratinocyte dysregulation may contribute to keloid-associated pruritus.

Case Presentation

In this paper, we report 2 cases of keloid-associated pruritus that were successfully treated with topical crisaborole 2% ointment, a phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor. Both patients had previously undergone multiple unsuccessful treatments before being treated with crisaborole 2% ointment. In both cases, the patients experienced complete relief of pruritus …

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

Arthritis, a diverse spectrum of joint disorders, is characterized by chronic pain and inflammation. Osteoarthritis (OA), the most prevalent form, leads to disabling pain, functional limitations, and reduced mobility. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used for managing OA pain, with ketoprofen recognized as one of the effective options. However, oral administration of ketoprofen may cause gastrointestinal irritation. Addressing this issue, Transdermal Drug Delivery Systems (TDDS) emerge as a promising alternative route of administration. TDDS facilitates delivery of various drugs through the skin without undergoing first-pass metabolism. Recent studies have centered on enhancing ketoprofen’s transdermal delivery, particularly focusing on different …

Smart Spectrophotometric Approaches For Estimation Of Difluprednate In Existence Of Its Synthetic Precursor And Alkaline Degradation Product; Comparative Statistical Studies And Analytical Ecological Appraisal, Heidi R. Abd El-Hadi, Basma M. Eltanany, Hala E. Zaazaa, Maya S. Eissa

Bulletin of Faculty of Pharmacy Cairo University

Scientists are currently attempting to lessen the harmful effects that chemicals and solvents have on the environment. The current work suggests four sensitive and sustainable spectrophotometric techniques for quantifying difluprednate (DIF) in presence of hydrocortisone acetate, which is a synthetic precursor of DIF, and in the presence of DIF alkaline degradation product. These methods are dual wavelength, fourier self-deconvolution, first derivative, and double divisor derivative ratio. The linearity range for all methods was 15.00-40.00 µg/mL. There is no statistically significant difference between established and reported methods, and the suggested strategies are more environmentally friendly than the reported one.
