Interrogating Race And Place-Based Inequities In Hiv And Covid-19, Rohan Khazanchi
EMET Projects
Over the last four years, I have developed a research focus examining the intersections of race, place, and health. My M.D. Honors Thesis reflects a snapshot of these efforts. In this collection of brief research reports, I leverage area-based measures to investigate structural inequities in three contexts: the HIV epidemic in our hyperlocal community, the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, and clinical trials for novel COVID-19 therapeutics. I apply novel social epidemiologic tools to measure and explore disparate outcomes. And, in reflecting upon my findings, I discuss concrete implications for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers alike.

Pharmacy Faculty Books and Book Chapters
The rapid transition to distance learning in response to the unexpected SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 pandemic led to disruption of clinical skills development, which are typically conducted face-to-face. Consequently, faculty adapted their courses, using a multitude of active learning modalities, to meet student learning objectives in the didactic and experiential settings. Strategies and considerations to implement innovative delivery methods and address potential challenges are elucidated. Furthermore, integration of a layered learning approach may allow for more broad perspectives and allow additional interactions and feedback, which is especially necessary in the virtual environment.

The Impact Of A Medicare Public Health Emergency Policy Change For Continuous Glucose Monitors On Utilization And Total Cost Of Care For Diabetes, Momoka Abe, Katie Norton, Jenifer Smith
Providence Pharmacy PGY1 Program at Providence Portland and Providence St. Vincent Medical Centers 2022
Home glucose monitoring was revolutionized in 1999 when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first professional continuous glucose monitor (CGM). With the advancements in technology, newer CGMs are available for personal use and have greatly impacted the way diabetes is managed. Although there are data regarding the benefits of CGMs in lowering hemoglobin A1c, data is currently lacking regarding whether the use of CGM affects the number of hospitalization/emergency department visits as well as the effect on cost of care. In addition, while CGMs have been traditionally used in patients with type 1 diabetes due to their …
