A Parallel-Group Randomized Controlled Trial Of The Boa®-Constricting Iv Band, Richard N. Bradley
Richard N Bradley
Background. Few studies have demonstrated the ideal technique for placement of peripheral venous access.
Objectives. The purpose of this study was to conduct a randomized, controlled trial to determine if there was a difference in success rates for establishing peripheral intravenous lines (IVs) when using the BOA® Constricting Band (BOA) compared to a standard elastic tourniquet.
Methods. Eligible participants were paramedics working in the out-of-hospital setting and nurses working in a trauma center. The intervention group intended to use the BOA® for all IV attempts, while the control group intended to use standard elastic tourniquets. The primary outcome was success …

The feasibility of mass vaccination campaigns for Japanese encephalitis and Haemophilus influenzae type b infections was explored in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea using pilot vaccination studies. The experiences from these initial studies were then used to support larger vaccination campaigns in children at risk of these infections. We discuss the challenges and requirements for the inclusion of additional vaccines into the existing expanded program on immunization in the country.

Commentary: Critical Analysis Of Chiropractic At The Crossroads Or Are We Just Going Around In Circles., Dennis M. Richards
Dennis M Richards
This commentary presents critical analysis of a paper published by Dr John Reggars, and based, as he admitted, on his perceptions and opinions. Many of those are wrong. Others raise important questions. Sourced from a lecture presented by him at the 2010 annual conference of the Chiropractic and Osteopathic College of Australia (‘COCA’), this polemic is best understood in its historical and political contexts. COCA’s objects include political activity and Reggars is its vice president, which he failed to declare.

Methods in use to reduce the cyanide level in cassava were found to be dangerous to the processors. To reduce occupational hazards, cassava processors sometimes wear protective coverings such as hand gloves, overall, mouth/nose hood, eye goggles which are not comfortable. Each of the steps in cassava processing stages exposes workers to various occupationally related ailments and disorders of ergonomic origin. The operators of dewatering tools are at the risks of suffering from different ailments. The traditional processors still depend on the old technique and resources. Workers are often exposed to cyanide and many are scared of the toxic effect of …

The Evolution Of College Health: A Story Of Education For Justice, Raymond Quirolgico
Raymond Quirolgico
Health has gained prominence in the public consciousness as a matter of security and equity. Therefore the need for the health promotion profession to orient itself in terms of social justice and not simply biomedical diagnostics is critical. This session will weave together a personal narrative of transitional journeys with original research about ACHA’s organizational evolution and cross-disciplinary theories and institutionally relevant practices to highlight the challenge of public health in this modern leadership context.

Paradigm Shift: A New Model – The Caa Wellness Initiative., Dennis M. Richards

It has been projected that the costs of health care have the potential to threaten the fiscal stability of Australian Governments in upcoming decades. These costs relate in particular to the ageing of the population, common lifestyle activities that involve health risks, and the ever-increasing demand for taxpayer-funded medical, drug and surgical treatments and technologies. Various Government bodies have determined that there is a need for change in thinking about health care, with new models of care being required and with much more emphasis being placed on disease prevention and health promotion. The Chiropractors ‘ Association of Australia has developed …

The projected costs of trends expected to occur in Australian society over the next 40 years, particularly demographic changes, have the potential to threaten the fiscal sustainability of Australian Government finances. These costs particularly relate to the financing of health care. The Strategic Plan of the Chiropractors’ Association of Australian (National) Ltd. includes two strategies that seek to address this situation. This paper details these trends and threats, why new models of health care will be required, and why a paradigm shift in thinking in health care may be needed.

Paradigm Shift - The Two Models., Dennis M. Richards
Dennis M Richards
The projected costs of trends expected to occur in Australian society over the next 40 years, particularly demographic changes, have the potential to threaten the fiscal sustainability of Australian Government finances. These costs particularly relate to the financing of health care, and the Government has called for new models of care to address this problem. This paper presents and discusses some historical models or paradigms of health care that may assist in understanding the current need for change and a possible solution.

The Palmer Philosophy Of Chiropractic – An Historical Perspective., Dennis M. Richards

It also oulines the philosophy of BJ Palmer, explaining how it may have been influenced by legal challenges to the early pioneers of chiropractic. Contemporary expression of the Palmer philosophy, as articulated by Strang, is also noted.
