Effects Of Strong Oxidants Present In Acer Spp. On Hemolysis Methemoglobin Production In Equine Erythrocytes, Gabrielle Mcgeorge, Jeffrey Lehman
Effects Of Strong Oxidants Present In Acer Spp. On Hemolysis Methemoglobin Production In Equine Erythrocytes, Gabrielle Mcgeorge, Jeffrey Lehman
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Projects
Maple toxicosis is a deadly condition affecting equines after they have ingested wilted leaves of the genus Acer (i.e., maple species). It is characterized by hemolytic anemia and methemoglobinemia. Although the toxins responsible for causing toxicosis have not been identified, they are thought to be strong oxidants. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of eight compounds (galloyl derivatives) found in Acer spp. on hemolysis and methemoglobin production in bioassays with equine erythrocytes. Seven of the compounds are known constituents of Acer spp. that are commercially available. One of the compounds--acertannin--was isolated and characterized from leaf extracts …
Comparative Study On Knowledge, Attitude, And Vaccination Intent Between Standard Care And Educational Intervention Of Hpv And The Hpv Vaccine Among Somali Population In Columbus, Ladan Barnes
Undergraduate Distinction Papers
Somali mothers have a negative cultural association with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and youth are failing to complete the HPV vaccination series. Somali immigrants and refugees are the fastest growing groups in the U.S. Somalia also has one of the highest cervical cancer mortality rates and U.S. Somali populations have lower screening completion rates. To prevent cross over disparities, efficient intervention strategies for the Somali population need to be explored. This research aims to identify strategies to combat HPV health disparities in the Somali community while promoting agency to make self-empowered health decisions. It is hypothesized that participants who undergo …

Improving Healthcare Provider Knowledge In Acute And Primary Transgender Health Needs: The Implementation Of A Clinical Education Program With Urgent Care And Emergency Room Staff And Providers, Tonia Lower
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
The purpose of this project was to improve knowledge and identify personal bias and beliefs in the acute and primary healthcare needs of transgender persons, through the implementation of a clinical education program with healthcare providers and staff working within the urgent care and emergency department settings. The need for such a program exists due to the lack of suitable and accessible healthcare that may lead to misdiagnosis, delay of treatment and poor health outcomes. Including clinical education in the acute and primary healthcare needs of transgender persons that can be integrated into healthcare organizations may aid in the improvement …
A Study Of Low Weight Bearing Exercise And Its Effect On Bone Density, Elizabeth Markle
A Study Of Low Weight Bearing Exercise And Its Effect On Bone Density, Elizabeth Markle
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Projects
Exercise has been a proven key to maintaining overall good health. There are many benefits of exercise: improved blood flood and overall heart strength, stronger muscles, improved cardiovascular system and it actively works to prevent superfluous fat storage on the body (Bassuk, 2013). Among these benefits is also the improvement and strengthening of bones (Bassuk, 2013). Bone strength can also be referred to as bone density and is very important to a person’s overall health because it relates directly to skeletal strength, posture, factors that affect falling and consequentially the fracturing of bones (Mayo Clinic Health Letter, 2011). A higher …
