Burnout among mental health professionals in inpatient behavioral health settings negatively affects staff well-being, job satisfaction, and patient care quality. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project evaluated the effectiveness of an 8-week mindfulness and gratitude journaling program implemented on a rural behavioral health unit in North Carolina. Guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, the intervention aimed to enhance resilience and workplace wellness through daily mindfulness and reflective journaling practices. Burnout among psychiatric technicians contributes to emotional exhaustion, decreased job satisfaction, workforce instability, and reduced quality of patient care. Despite increasing recognition of healthcare worker well-being as a priority, limited evidence exists regarding interventions specifically designed for psychiatric technicians. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice project was to implement and evaluate a structured mental health workshop designed to reduce burnout and improve job satisfaction among psychiatric technicians employed in inpatient, outpatient, and group home mental health settings. This project analyzed the effect of the daily use of a mindfulness-based mobile application on associate degree nursing undergraduate prelicensure students’ perceived stress levels. Nursing students experience elevated stress levels that may be reduced through mindfulness behaviors. Undergraduate, prelicensure nursing students participated in establishing the impact of mindfulness on perceived stress levels in a quantitative pre/postintervention study.
