Journal of Health Research

Background: Childhood epilepsy requires long-term management and places substantial responsibilities on caregivers. In Thailand, limited public awareness and persistent stigma surrounding epilepsy may intensify caregivers’ psychosocial and practical burdens. This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of caregivers of children with epilepsy in Thailand.

Methods: A qualitative study using two semi-structured focus group discussions (FGDs; 5 participants per group) and 15 in-depth interviews (IDIs) was conducted with primary caregivers of children with epilepsy receiving care at a neurological referral institute in Thailand. Participants were purposively selected to capture a diverse range of caregiving experiences. Data were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, …

Starting Strong: Improving Mmr Vaccination Rates In Kindergartners, Regina Bryan

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive

Abstract

Introduction

During the 2023–2024 academic year, measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination coverage among kindergarten students in this school district did not meet the Healthy People 2030 target, thereby elevating the risk of disease outbreaks. This quality improvement project aimed to improve MMR vaccination initiation and completion through coordinated, school-based interventions.

Methods

Guided by the Plan-Do-Study-Act framework, an eight-week immunization bundle was implemented across 14 elementary schools in South Texas. Interventions included reminder calls, multilingual education, districtwide communication, and a partnership with a nonprofit clinic that provides free or reduced-cost vaccines through on-site and community clinics. Pre- and post-intervention …

Social Determinants Of Health Screening In The Pediatric Population: Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Staff Education, Brenda Awuah, Kansas S. Logan, Sally Humphrey Dnp, Aprn, Cpnp-Pc, Sharon Little Dnp, Aprn, Fnp-Bc

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) are conditions that influence health outcomes. SDOHs are screened and addressed in many clinics and hospitals to reduce patients' social needs. Research indicates how unaddressed SDOH can negatively impact chronic illness, along with the daily life of pediatric patients. SDOH's role in pediatric patients includes food security, housing stability, access to healthcare, caregiver education, and parental mental health. Previous research has addressed these factors; however, the lack of staff education prevents effective compliance and follow-up on SDOH screening. Challenges remain in implementing and integrating SDOH into routine well-child visits. This scoping review will evaluate and …

Abstract Assignment

Purpose/Background

Children with multiple chronic health conditions account for a significant portion of hospital readmission and healthcare expenses. A scoping review was completed to analyze and summarize the available research regarding the effectiveness of discharge education on readmission rates and associated outcomes in children with chronic conditions. The following PICOT question was created: In pediatric patients with chronic disease, how does a discharge education bundle compared to no discharge education bundle affect readmission rates within 30 days of discharge?

Methods

A systematic approach was utilized for analysis to determine article eligibility. The initial search yielded 30 articles; however, …

The Impact Of Parental Presence On Pediatric Recovery Outcomes Following Invasive Procedures Or Surgery, Jaymie Riza Torres, Franchesca Isabelle Andaya Lazaro

Nursing | Senior Theses

Background: Pediatric patients are severely affected by preoperative anxiety which can lead to postoperative complications and delayed recovery. This could be attributed to their developmental stage which determines their response to stress and fear. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate postoperative recovery outcomes in pediatric patients following the implementation of parental presence at the induction of anesthesia and upon first waking up. Method: This proposed research utilizes a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods through a quasi-experimental study. The target population consists of pediatric patients between the ages of three and eight years …

Improving Immunization Rates In Children Under Two Years Of Age In Linn County, Kansas Through Nursing Education, Heather L. Webber

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project

Immunizations are one of the most beneficial preventive health measures available to children under two years of age. Failing to receive these preventative immunizations during these crucial years could result in the child developing serious diseases that may lead to long term disability or even be fatal. By increasing immunization rates, children will be more protected against common childhood diseases which will allow them to grow and thrive. The purpose of this scholarly project was to identify ways to improve vaccination rates in children under two years of age at specific clinics in Linn County, Kansas, using healthcare professional education. …

Relationship Between Nursing Care Provided For Children Postextubated From Mechanical Ventilation And Their Reventilation., Marwa G. Abouheiba, Magda E. Youssef

Nursing

Background: Respiratory failure requires mechanical ventilation to maintain gas exchange. Extubation means endotracheal tube removal, where ventilated children maintain an efficient gas exchange without ventilatory support. If extubation fails, the children will need reventilation. Therefore, after extubation, children must receive proper nursing care to prevent reventilation. Aim: This study aims to identify the relationship between nursing care provided for children post-extubated from mechanical ventilation and their reventilation. Settings: The study was conducted at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Alexandria University Children’s Hospital at El-Shatby. Subjects: A convenient sample of 50 extubated children and all nurses provided care to these …

Enhancing Athletic Participation: Continuous Glucose Monitoring For Pediatric Type 1 Diabetes Athletes, Danielle Santiago

Nursing | Senior Theses

The difficulties that children and teenagers with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) encounter are discussed in this thesis, with a focus on how fear of hypoglycemia (FOH) and actual hypoglycemia associated with this chronic illness affects their ability to engage in physical activities, especially organized sports. A common challenge for children diagnosed with T1DM is meeting the daily recommendation of 60 minutes of daily moderate to vigorous physical activity. The purpose of the proposed study is to evaluate if participation in structured exercise (physical education classes and after-school sports) increases among school-aged children who wear continuous glucose monitors (CGM) when …

Reducing Emergency Department Visits For Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: Nurse-Led Home Interventions, Teri Nguyen

Nursing | Senior Theses

In the realm of pediatric healthcare, children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face unique challenges alongside their caregivers. Caregivers face challenges in accessing appropriate support and resources to effectively address the needs of children with ASD. Children with ASD struggle with sensory sensitivities, impaired safety awareness, and difficulties perceiving potential dangers which put them at greater risk for injuries. As a result, children with autism have higher rates of emergency department visits compared to their neurotypical peers. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of nurse-led home injury prevention and education in reducing emergency department visits for children with …

Introduction Of Probiotics To Improve Eczema Symptoms In Children In One Pediatric Primary Care Practice: A Quality Improvement Project, Christie Potter

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Background: There is emerging interest in alternative approaches to treating children with eczema because there is currently no allopathic cure. Non-pharmacological approaches are regarded as generally safe, well tolerated, and cost effective. Eczema is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory, itchy skin condition that adversely affects quality of life in many individuals, including children. Eczema interferes with sleep, leads to secondary skin infections, and causes intractable itching. Topical steroids are the current standard of practice in treating patients but, evidence suggests that they can cause unwanted side effects and can lead to serious systemic reactions. The purpose of this quality improvement project …

Implementation Of The Vaccines For Children Program In A Midwest, Urban Clinic Dedicated To The Underserved Population, Akmal Saydazamov

Doctoral Projects

Background: Low immunization rates weaken herd immunity and endanger children.
