The Impact Of A Social Wellness Intervention On The Perception Of Social Support Among Working Adults, Jannysse Gray
DNP Research Projects
Abstract
Objective: Social isolation and loneliness have detrimental effects on physical and mental health. For working adults, these experiences may impact work attendance, performance, satisfaction, and retention, leading to burnout, fatigue, grief, and disengagement. Barriers to developing and nurturing healthy relationships, such as competing work and family responsibilities, or a lack of resources or energy, can contribute to this problem; therefore, this group was chosen for the intervention. This project aimed to raise awareness of the importance of social connections and to analyze whether an online educational intervention was associated with improved perceptions of social support among working adults. Methods: …

Evaluation Of A Brief Mindfulness-Based Intervention Of Work-Related Stress, Job Satisfaction, Retention, And Quality Care: A Quality Improvement (Qi) Project, Laura M. Bragg
DNP Projects
Burnout among advanced practice providers (APPs) remains a significant concern nationally and within the University of Kentucky Healthcare system, with post-COVID evidence showing persistently elevated stress and emotional exhaustion. This quality improvement (QI) project implemented and evaluated a brief, app-based mindfulness intervention using the Headspace “Learn the Basics of Meditation” program for work-related stress, job satisfaction, mindfulness, and retention intentions among APPs. A one-group pre-post design was implemented, with 45 APPs completing the pre-intervention survey and four completing both the pre- and post-intervention surveys. Although no statistically significant improvements were observed, nonsignificant decreases in emotional exhaustion, fatigue, and turnover intention …

Nicu Nurse Burnout: The Influence Of Moral Distress, Compassion Fatigue, And Spirituality On Burnout In Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurses, Lucia D'Andrea
Undergraduate Theses
Nurses face a multitude of interpersonal and individual expectations, challenges, and hardships every day of their profession. These experiences accumulate and can lead to burnout. This is especially true for nurses in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) who care for infants struggling with prematurity, congenital diseases, withdrawal, and more, all while working closely with grieving parents. This thesis specifically focuses on research discussing moral distress, compassion fatigue, and spirituality as variables associated with the experience of burnout. A critical review of current literature revealed patterns and inconsistencies in the relationships between these factors. Workplace Stressors and moral distress were found …

The Best Care Begins With Self-Care: An Educational Initiative For Nurses, Betty Sanisidro
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
An educational initiative was developed and implemented to aid in ascertaining if self-care modalities implemented by nurses lead to decreased symptoms of compassion fatigue and burnout, to support current research that self-care practices do prevent compassion fatigue and burnout, and to enhance the growing body of evidence to support nursing and self-care practices. This educational initiative and preventive program included the creation and implementation of a one-hour training session for early identification of burnout among occupational health nurses with a follow up self-enrollment in a four-week initiative focusing on self-compassion interventions and Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) for participating nurses. This …

Burnout, Depression And Suicide Prevention For Nursing Staff In High-Intensity Settings, April Ritchie
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Nurses working in high-intensity settings experience burnout at higher rates than in other nursing areas. Burnout in healthcare is a problem estimated as high as 70% by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Burnout can lead to depressive symptoms, which can lead to suicidal ideation in affected healthcare providers, which makes early identification and treatment of utmost importance to the mental and physical wellbeing of these nurses.
The purpose of this project is to examine burnout in nursing staff working in high-intensity areas of the hospital in order to help identify burnout and/or depressive symptoms before they lead to …
Compassion Fatigue In Medical Surgical Nurses, Ashlee Nicole Simmons
Compassion Fatigue In Medical Surgical Nurses, Ashlee Nicole Simmons
Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects
Often nurses are consumed by providing care to others and forget to care for themselves. The lack of self-care can lead to compassion fatigue in the nurse's life. The purpose of this thesis was to assess the level of compassion fatigue within medical surgical nurses, and determine the correlation between years of experience as a registered nurse and compassion fatigue. The Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL-5) was used to identify the existence of compassion fatigue in medical surgical nurses. Data was collected and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Seventy-five medical surgical nurses working in an acute …

The non-experimental, correlational study is guided by Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory and uses an online survey data collection and convenience sampling. Measures include: motivation, emotional regulation, psychological well-being (burnout; inauthenticity), and academic performance (GPA), and will be measured using Deci and Ryan’s scale, the Emotion Regulation …
Relationship Between Job Satisfaction And Nurse To Patient Ratio With Nurse Burnout, Kayla Teeter
Relationship Between Job Satisfaction And Nurse To Patient Ratio With Nurse Burnout, Kayla Teeter
Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects
There is evidence that the increase in patients per nurse ratio and job dissatisfaction are leading causes of nurse burnout in the United States; however, current research mostly focuses on the hospital setting which limits the generalization of the findings. Therefore, more research is needed beyond the hospital environment. The purpose of this MSN thesis was to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and nurse-patient ratio with nurse burnout among home health nurses. The hypothesis is that home health nurses who experience a higher nurse to patient ratio and greater job dissatisfaction will experience increased nurse burnout. A review of …
