Promoting The Use Of Smoke Evacuation Systems In The Operating Room: A Quality Improvement Initiative, Andrea Leigh Drayer
Promoting The Use Of Smoke Evacuation Systems In The Operating Room: A Quality Improvement Initiative, Andrea Leigh Drayer
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Background: Surgical smoke produced during procedures poses serious health risks to operating
room (OR) staff and patients, yet many hospitals, including an academic medical center in
northern West Virginia, have underutilized smoke evacuation systems. The imminent
enforcement of West Virginia House Bill 4376, mandating smoke evacuation use, provided both
urgency and opportunity for an intervention.
Purpose: The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project
was to increase timely compliance with the use of smoke evacuation systems during all smoke-
producing procedures, ensuring alignment with safety standards and legislative requirements.
Methods: A systematic evidence review of academic …
Implementing A Nurse-Driven Clostridium Difficile Screening Protocol, Sandrela Magnuson
Implementing A Nurse-Driven Clostridium Difficile Screening Protocol, Sandrela Magnuson
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
ABSTRACT
Background: Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is a prevalent infection often contracted in hospitals. CDI is also increasingly originating from community settings. In addition to the health risks associated with CDI, diagnosis of a hospital-acquired CDI can have a significant financial impact on hospital systems. When hospital acquired, hospital systems are no longer reimbursed by payers. Secondary to the increasing prevalence of community-acquired CDI, mechanisms for early detection and isolation are warranted.
Local Problem: J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital has an integrated Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) electronic health record (EHR) screening questionnaire that requires updating to align with current guidelines.
Purpose: …
Evaluation Of The Impact Of An Educational Intervention Aimed At Improving Tuberculosis Infection Control Knowledge Among Health Care Workers In A Military Treatment Facility: A Quality Improvement Project, Allen C. Potter
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Background: Florida (FL) is one of the top five states in the nation for Tuberculosis (TB) infections. A majority of new infections can be found in the minority populations which represents 78% of all TB infections in the state. A combination of TB rates in FL, Orlando located 60 miles away and a transient population who frequently deploys worldwide to austere locations may result in an increased risk of acquiring TB. Literature suggests Health Care Providers (HCPs) obtain training regarding TB Infection Control (TB-IC). The Patrick AFB Military Treatment Facility (MTF) lacked a TB Infection Control (TB-IC) plan. Objective: The …
An Educational Intervention For Skin Cancer Prevention With Hospital Staff: A Pilot Project For System Change, Amy Fran Bruce
An Educational Intervention For Skin Cancer Prevention With Hospital Staff: A Pilot Project For System Change, Amy Fran Bruce
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
PURPOSE: The purpose of this project was to design, implement, and evaluate an educational intervention provided to health care professionals using the Sun Smart U Curriculum created by the Skin Cancer Foundation (2017).
METHODS: Using a pretest-posttest design with a convenience sample (N=40), this intervention targeted the health professionals and staff from a residential/acute care facility caring for pre-adolescent, adolescent, and adult populations. Aims of this project included: (1) the staff’s baseline level of knowledge regarding sun protective behaviors using the Sun Smart U Curriculum, (2) the staff’s level of knowledge regarding sun protective behaviors post educational intervention …
