Background: Healthcare is facing a significant nursing shortage. This shortage not only impacts bedside nurses but also nurse leaders. Succession planning is a method for recruiting, retaining, and building resilience among nurse leaders.
Purpose: This quality improvement project applied principles of succession planning, including leadership education, training, and assessment of leadership retention and resilience.

BACKGROUND: Burnout among nurse leaders is a growing concern, driven by increasing workload, operational demands, and challenges with work-life balance. Addressing burnout is critical to maintaining stability within the leadership team and to delivering high-quality patient care.

Objective: To utilize the Gallup Q12+ survey to assess baseline staff engagement among nurses and nursing assistants at a critical access hospital, implement direct education intervention, and evaluate its impact on staff engagement rates, with the goal of identifying micro and macro-problems.
Methods: This quality improved project was conducted at Littleton Regional Hospital, a level Ⅲ trauma center and critical access hospital. The PDSA cycle started on March 1 and ended May 10. Background: Moral distress, burnout, and compassion fatigue in acute care nurses has increased significantly since the Covid-19 pandemic and has been associated with high levels of nursing turnover and increased costs to healthcare systems. Nurse leaders at the study organization had never received education on recognizing and responding to moral distress. Background: Although beneficial to patient outcomes, inpatient ambulation is not a prioritized care intervention, and a task often deferred to physical therapy. Patient immobility is a complex problem that requires a multifaceted approach.
Local Problem: In a rural, critical access hospital, on an 18-bed medical surgical unit, nursing staff lacked ownership of patient mobility. There was no standardized process to document ambulation and mobility tasks were not scheduled, falling to the end of the nursing work list. Abstract
BACKGROUND: Traditional clinical scheduling coupled with the current reimbursement system have created systematic barriers leading to decreased clinical education opportunities. Alternative scheduling models such as longitudinal integrated clerkships, one preceptor to two students and wave scheduling have the potential to eliminate these barriers and provide financial gains and increased access to care.
INTERVENTION: Interventions to meet this quality improvement project's objectives included (1) pre-intervention planning (2) focus groups, (3) video presentations and (4) a pilot program of alternative scheduling models in clinical practice.

Introduction: At a large academic healthcare facility in the northeast a Gap Analysis was conducted finding quality improvement opportunities for central line associated blood stream (CLABSI) prevention in critically ill patients. Review of literature reveals the use of minocycline-rifampin impregnated (MNRI) central venous catheters (CVCs) as being an effective intervention in CLABSI prevention.
Methods: Several assessments were conducted regarding the implications of updating the facilities practice to reflect this evidence including AHRQ Gap Analysis Tool, a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis, Stakeholder Feedback, and Resource Allocation.

Background: Communication between emergency medical services (EMS) and the emergency department (ED) is a key part of treating patients being transported by ambulance. This communication is moving away from traditional radio and cell phone calls to the use of secure text-based apps. These apps can generate metrics and provide real time location information that is not available using traditional methods. Increased use of these apps can improve communication between EMS and receiving EDs.

Background: Burnout is a widespread, pervasive issue the healthcare industry. Many efforts related to burnout reduction have been focused on front line caregivers but there is continued opportunity to address burnout in leadership. BACKGROUND: Emergency Department boarding is a well-documented systemic problem across the country. ED-2b, the time from decision to admit a patient to Emergency Department departure, is specified by the Joint Commission as a quality measure for Emergency Department boarding. ED-2b metrics have been a longstanding challenge at this community hospital outside the nation’s capital. The aim of this study was to reduce median ED-2b times by 10% compared to fiscal year 2020 (FY20). Application of mechanical restraints is a high-risk emergency measure that requires psychiatric intensive care in order to assure patient safety and expedite release at the earliest opportunity. While current regulations require that trained staff continuously observe restrained individuals, assessment by a registered nurse is required only once an hour. This project builds on research that demonstrated a regulatory change requiring more frequent registered nurse assessments led to decreased duration of mechanical restraint episodes in an acute psychiatric hospital.
