Introduction

To address the identified gap in emergency preparedness education and training among nursing students at a teaching hospital in southern India, a private university in the southeastern United States partnered with the site to develop a quality improvement initiative aimed at strengthening these skills. Nursing students at the partner hospital have limited access to simulation-based training opportunities due to constraints in both curriculum and availability of simulation resources. Research Question: Does teaching nurses to control the patient environment (I) in acute care in-patients aged 65+ (P) reduce insomnia compared to current practice (Q1H rounding) (C) from 67.4% to less than 30% as measured by the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) (O)?

Background and Significance: 67.4% of hospitalized patients report experiencing insomnia from sleep disturbances, which can significantly impact their recovery and overall health outcomes. Nurses can address these disruptions by monitoring noise, light exposure, and staff interruptions.

Background and Rationale: Current guidelines recommend utilization of a clinical decision-making tool, like the Centor score, in conjunction with confirmatory diagnostic methods, such as a throat culture or rapid test, rather than either method alone. Background: In 2021, cancer (CRC) screening rates for Latino men (42%) and women (47.5%) remain well below the Health People 2020 target (70.5%). Extensive documentation of barriers for screening include language, insurance status, and other sociocultural barriers which contribute to delays in diagnosis and/or diagnosis at advanced stages of the disease, and worse health outcomes. Latinos need culturally and linguistically appropriate health promotion interventions aimed to increase CRC screening rates with any modality (FIT, Cologuard, or Colonoscopy).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess whether or not, and the degree to which compassion satisfaction (CS), burnout (BO), and secondary traumatic stress (STS) are present among inpatient acute-care heart transplant nurses. Perceived presence of other contributing factors that contributed to CS, BO, and STS was also assessed.

Design: A cross-sectional survey-based mixed methods study with an explanatory sequential design was used to assess baseline levels of CS, BO, and STS and identify any other factors at work or home that may impact these constructs.

Despite the prevalence of adverse childhood events (ACEs) and the relationship with negative health outcomes in adults, research shows clinical use of ACE screening is low among healthcare providers including nurse practitioners (NPs). The scholarly project’s purpose was to examine how Tennessee NP knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy influence intentions to screen for ACEs related to childhood trauma or abuse in adult patients. The vaccines for HPV are safe and effective, but previous research demonstrated that nursing students have low knowledge levels and vaccine uptake. Purpose: The purpose of the study is 1) to assess the effect of dietary self-monitoring on weight loss in a population of Caucasian and African-American women and men; and 2) to determine if there is a difference in African Americans’ and Caucasians’ use of self-monitoring in weight loss.

Review of the Literature: Previous studies demonstrated increased weight loss with dietary self-monitoring; however, these studies’ samples are 70-80% Caucasian women and cannot be generalized to African-Americans or men. Studies confirming the effectiveness of dietary intake self-monitoring in non-Caucasian women and men are needed.
