Purpose: High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) is an oxygen delivery method with numerous benefits for severely ill patients. There is a paucity of research focused on the perspectives of patients receiving HFNC oxygen therapy. This study aimed to engage with patients to gain a clearer understanding of their experiences, priorities, and health-related quality of life.

Methods: A cross-sectional, mixed methods study was completed with 10 adult inpatients who had received HFNC oxygen therapy during their hospital admission. Purpose

The purpose of the quality improvement project was to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing a data driven debrief tool to improve the average compressions in target in adult cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) events.

Results

In FY23 prior to implementation the average compressions in target was only 1.65%. During the implementation phase of the project the average compressions in target reached 41% (n=3). In addition, the staff provided positive feedback regarding the tool and the integration in the workflow.

Background: Medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI) is a common complication associated with acrylic-based adhesive removal. Topical agents such as 0.9% NaCl (normal saline), white petrolatum, and 70% alcohol are commonly used to assist adhesive removal; however, their effectiveness in reducing MARSI remains unclear.

Methods: This single-blind randomized controlled trial with a within-subject design included 56 healthy adults. Acrylic-based adhesives were applied to four sites on the upper arms. A clinical gap was identified when reviewing a hospital acquired pressure injury (HAPI) dashboard from a 369- bed, acute care community hospital located in North Texas. Fifty percent of HAPIs acquired occurred in older adults, aged 60 or higher, who were admitted into the intensive care unit (ICU) from the emergency department (ED). A retrospective review of the electronic health records (EHR) demonstrated that none of the patients had received HAPI prevention interventions while they were in the ED and the inconsistent document of skin assessments resulted in identification of few HAPIs present on admission (POA). Purpose

The goal of this quality improvement project was to utilize the SKINSAFE pressure injury prevention bundle during 12 weeks of implementation to increase evidence-based pressure injury prevention practices adherence and decrease risk of hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) in the intensive care units (ICU).

Background

ICU patients experience high risk for hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) secondary to immobility and device related pressure. Initial adherence to SKINSAFE bundle was 55-56%. There was inconsistent use of heel offloading devices, wound photography and documentation. Prevention bundles were affected by staffing fluctuations and leadership turnovers.

Problem There was inconsistency in implementation of the DKA protocol by nurses in the emergency department at the Hospital A. Only 58% of the nurses reported feeling comfortable following the DK protocol, and 84% of the nurses described the DKA order set as confusing. Context Hospital A is a large magnet-recognition hospital system in the Bay Area. The emergency department at Hospital A averages about 12 DKA patients per quarter.
