Workplace violence incidence rates are increasing in the medical field. The staff in the emergency department (ED) is especially prone to these workplace violence events due to patients arriving in such unpredictable states. Alarmingly, most medical staff members report experiencing some type of workplace violence, whether that is verbal, physical, or sexual violence. The former director of the Parkland ED sent out a survey to the ED staff regarding workplace violence. Out of 145 participants that completed this survey, 121 participants reported that they had personally experienced a workplace violence event. The purpose of this research study was to discover any new or transformed images of nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The research question was “What are Registered Nurses’ images of nursing while working during a pandemic?” Registered nurses submitted an image and a brief narrative of the image through REDCap ©, a secure database, describing how the image and culture of nursing is impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Background

Nursing is a high-risk occupation for work-related musculoskeletal disorders and many nursing students have a history of musculoskeletal symptoms.

Aims

To quantify (1) changes in exercise and musculoskeletal symptoms from pre-registration to 12-month registered nurses, and (2) the best predictor of severity of musculoskeletal symptoms from measures of the five physical fitness components and exercise participation.

Methods

In this longitudinal study, August 2013 to April 2015, 62 (55.9%) of 111 nursing students fitness tested completed questionnaires measuring nursing work history, exercise, and musculoskeletal symptoms at baseline and 12 months post-registration.

The advanced survival of the early premature infant (EPI) since the post-surfactant era has not improved many comorbidities. EPI comorbidities influence their lifelong health, social, and cognitive outcomes. EPIs often have immature and disorganized responses to stimuli during the neonatal period. EPIs respond to stressors from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit’s (NICU) environment, stimulation, or disease states based on physiologic system changes, often resulting in observable behavioral changes. Background: During the COVID-19 crisis, nurses experience a greater psychological burden than other health care workers. Studies have not yet investigated the effects of years in nursing and mental health on potential work impairment during the COVID-19 crisis in nurses. A telemedicine education module (TEM) was designed and developed for this staff education project to improve the knowledge of nurses and providers about best practices in telemedicine and patient safety. A pretest and posttest design was used to evaluate if a gain in knowledge occurred after participants reviewed the TEM, which was designed and developed using Knowles theory of andragogy for adult learning outcomes.
