Assessing And Strengthening New Provider Education Related To Extrapyramidal Symptoms And Antipsychotic Medication Usage, Mesiah O'Mar Porter Jr. Jul 2023

Assessing And Strengthening New Provider Education Related To Extrapyramidal Symptoms And Antipsychotic Medication Usage, Mesiah O'Mar Porter Jr.

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Inadequate recognition and treatment of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) pose as a major liability to providers, as EPS can be life-threatening to patients, as they develop into metabolic syndrome, tardive dyskinesia (TD), or even death. Thus, insufficient usage of AIMS testing can negatively impact providers’ ability to meet associated care practice standards, when treating psychotic patients with antipsychotic medications. As a result, an evidence-based practice, quasiexperimental project was completed, utilizing the Iowa Model Revised: Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Excellence in Healthcare. In alignment with this version of the revised Iowa Model, a pilot study was initiated to progress toward a formal …

What Is The Scope Of Practice Of The Nurse Practitioner As A Surgical Assistant In Australia?, Toni G. Hains, Catherine L. Smith

Journal of Perioperative Nursing

Discussion around the scope of practice of all nurse practitioners (NPs) in Australia was a component of the recent review of NPs’ eligibility to have broader access to the Medical Benefits Schedule (MBS). This review process has been prolonged and, while the MBS review officially concluded on the 30 June 2020, no information regarding decisions about expanded NP access to the MBS for patient rebates had been disclosed at the time of publication. It is anticipated that the MBS review will contribute little change to NP access to the MBS.

The MBS is the primary funding process for private-sector medical …

Salary, Benefits Packages, And Negotiation Skills For Nurse Practitioners, Lea Ann Tyler, Laura A. Weiss

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project

Currently, there are nearly 250,000 practicing nurse practitioners providing care in a broad variety of healthcare settings, and that number is growing by three to four thousand every year. Historically, nurse practitioners have been paid a salary commensurate with experience. As the healthcare market changes, so too is the way NPs are being paid. It is imperative that nurse practitioner students are educated and knowledgeable about nurse practitioner salary, benefits packages and negotiation techniques. This information is necessary to make informed decisions on these matters, and before signing any formal contract.

Through a substantial literature review, it was determined there …

An Examination Of The Night Burn Clinic Transition To Nurse Practitioner Coverage, Kevin J. Maxwell Dnp, Fnp-Bc

Dissertations

Background/Significance: Burns are dynamic, evolving wounds requiring prompt attention and treatment (Morgan et al., 2018). Many studies have been conducted comparing physician outcomes to those of APNs showing no difference (McCleery, Christensen, Peterson, Humphrey, & Helfand, 2011; Naylor & Kurtzman, 2010; Pioro et al., 2001; Roche, Gardner, & Jack, 2017; Spetz, Skillman, & Andrilla, 2017). Time delays which allow for progression of the injury have a negative impact on patient outcomes. Any pathway allowing for quicker review of the burn by a burn specialist should be welcomed (Kelly et al., 2013). APNs can augment physician efforts and expand access to …

College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations

Those living within the nursing home setting, or long-term care facilities, are at higher risk to succumb to the symptoms of depression due to illness, separation from family, and loss of autonomy. The available data has demonstrated that nurse practitioners are educated and trained to identify and treat depression. However, there is a lack of research that discusses the perspectives of nurse practitioners, such as how they utilize their clinical experience to tailor their treatment modalities on a case by case basis within the nursing home setting. They do this by using their specific assessment method to screen for depression, …
