Literature shows that nursing care in rural communities improves when the nurse has increased knowledge through continuing education. Specific oncology studies in areas of stress, pain assessment and documentation, and death and dying.(Hedman-1990,Camp-Sorrell-1991,Foglesong-1987,Webber-1991) demonstrate similar results. It is reasonable that continuing education in areas of the cancer process, standard therapies, and methods of symptom control would improve patient care. This project allowed nurses who had limited access to cancer education in rural areas of Utah to receive basic cancer education. Factors That Influence Family Nurse Practitioner Job Satisfaction, Jeffrey M. Bishop

Job satisfaction influences employee retention, employee self-actualization, worker productivity, and performance quality. This study investigated the factors that influence family nurse practitioners' (FNPs) job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction. Additionally, the study was an attempt to ascertain the intrinsic and extrinsic factors as well as the general level of job satisfaction. A descriptive survey design with a triangulated approach utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods was used. Job satisfaction was conceptualized based on Frank Herzberg's dual-factor theory of satisfaction and motivation. A random sample of 100 FNPs was surveyed with the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire-Short Form and a researcher-designed Demographic Data Questionnaire that …

Some nursing centers have been confronted with many problems that have hindered their success or even motivated them to close. Other nursing centers have attained with unsurpassed proficiency and, consequently, have emulated success. The purpose of this nonexperimental descriptive study was to explore the facilitators and barriers to the success of nursing centers as experienced by nurse executives. The conceptual framework used was the McGill Model of Nursing created by Dr. Moyra Allen (Gottlieb & Rowat, 1985). The level of self-confidence attained in a particular role affects the ability to perform in that role. Self- confidence is not innate but is developed through the interactions and experiences one has. The purpose of this study was to identify the level of self-confidence related to knowledge and skills of nurse clinicians practicing in the expanded role. Benner’s (1984) framework. From Novice to Expert, provided the direction and structure for this descriptive study. Three hundred thirty- three nurse clinicians licensed to practice primarily in four southeastern states participated in this study. This document is the Peoria State Hospital School of Psychiatric Nursing: Ward Manual. The owner; Evelyn Cornelius Lantz '41, was a nursing student with Illinois Wesleyan's partner at the time Brokaw Hospital. Assigned to the recently built State Hospital in Peoria for clinicals, Lantz used this manual to take notes on her patients, marking the best types of care for each mental affliction.
