Evidenced-based research has identified that routine HIV testing and education is pivotal in identifying new infections, providing access to treatment, and decreasing the rates of transmission. In 2006, the CDC implemented new guidelines recommending that all persons aged 13-64 years be tested yearly for HIV regardless of risk factors. Despite these recommendations, the CDC estimated that less than 37% of people were tested in 2017 and in the years prior. This quality improvement project was created to help increase knowledge of the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) in the Emergency Department (ED), a form of triage used to categorize patients by their acuity. Proper ESI use shortens the length of stay times, door to provider times and reduces the number of patients that leave without being seen.

The goal of this project was to develop an online learning module that would increase the nurses’ knowledge of triage to enhance triage accuracy. Nineteen (19) emergency department nurses were given a pretest, an ESI educational presentation, and a follow-up post-test.

Implementation Of Lgbt+ Health Education For Master’S Entry Nursing Students, Daniel R. Mead

Background: There is a paucity of evidence linking Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT+) health education with improvement in nursing students’ knowledge, attitudes, and comfort of LGBT+ health considerations.

Methods: In a pre- and post-test study design, a total of 77 master’s entry to nursing practice students completed the LGBT+ health educational module during the Community Health Nursing course.

Results: Statistically significant results were found between pre-test to post-test data for knowledge (p < .001, Cohen’s d 2.52), attitudes (p < .001, Cohen’s d 0.35), and comfort (p = .001, Cohen’s d 0.31) of LGBT+ health considerations.

Problem: Human trafficking (HT) is a significant worldwide and domestic issue affecting all ages, races, and genders resulting in over 40 million victims globally. Purpose: To examine opioid prescription practices, patient use of opioids after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and patient knowledge about disposal of unused medication.

Design: Mixed methods design with a chart review and structured phone interview.

Methods: Thirty-four patients were interviewed by phone and asked how many opioids were prescribed, how many excess pills they had 6 to 10 days postoperatively, and if they knew how to dispose of them.

Findings: Average number of excess pills ranged from 0 to 42 (mean = 14; SD = 11.7). Nearly half of patients (47%) perceived the prescribed quantity as “too many.” Seventy-one percent of patients …

Design A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted based on the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions and its reporting was checked against the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist. Untethered Lecture Capture (ULC), a technology-enhanced teaching strategy, permits faculty to be freely mobile in the classroom (untethered) while simultaneously teaching and creating audiovisual media assets (lecture capture). Faculty, representing nine disciplines, implemented ULC in undergraduate courses. Qualitative content analysis resulted in three themes. Undergraduate participants (n¼23) reported ULC supports accessibility and education affordances, enhancing personalized, self-paced learning, and equal opportunities for academic success. Untethered faculty teach on our turf, teaching among rather than talking at students, enhancing time-on-task, in-class focus, and learner socialization. Understanding and retention were perceived as improved when multimedia instruction principles were integrated in the classroom.

Service-learning opportunities for baccalaureate nursing students in Kenya have provided many ongoing examples of learning from our Kenyan collaborators.
