Cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL) is a rare, incurable, chronic disease accounting for approximately 3% of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnoses every year. Patients with CTCL have skin lesions that can vary in severity putting patients at risk for developing symptoms that may impair their quality of life (QOL). The disease burden can lead to increased depressive symptoms, fatigue distress, and anxiety that the disease may be worsening. Seventy-five participants agreed to take part in an exploratory, prospective study to evaluate depressive symptoms, anxiety, fatigue distress, and spirituality as predictors of QOL in CTCL patients. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration estimated 22.2 million (9.1 %) of Americans ages 12 and older abused or were dependent on an illicit substance or alcohol in 2005. Substance abuse often leads to addiction, and is damaging to the health of persons, families, and society.

High-fidelity simulation (HFS) is sweeping the nation as a legitimate and exciting new resource for nursing educators. As with most new technologies, HFS is not without its difficulties. It can be a costly program to run and may also cause anxiety among the faculty required for implementation. There is a simple solution to help increase the ease of its implementation: using student workers. This article discusses how using students to help run the simulations can not only reduce overall cost and anxiety associated with this new technology but also increase learning among those participating in HFS.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether nursing students assigned to a home hospital experience less stress and improved academic performance. Students were assigned to a home hospital clinical placement (n = 78) or a control clinical placement (n = 79). Stress was measured using the Student Nurse Stress Index (SNSI) and Spielberger’s State Anxiety Inventory. Academic performance included score on the RN CAT, a standardized mock NCLEX-RN®-type test; nursing grade point average; and first attempt pass-fail on the NCLEX-RN. Background: Patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) often experience anxiety, an emotion that predicts adverse physiologic outcomes. Critical care clinicians have not adopted an anxiety assessment instrument for widespread use, due in part to the unavailability of an easy to administer anxiety instrument that is not burdensome to either clinicians or critically ill patients. Healing Touch, an energetic treatment modality developed by nurses, was introduced into an established torture treatment center with the goal of decreasing torture-related symptoms and increasing survivors' overall sense of well-being and health. Three methods of evaluation were used to determine if the project goal had been met. The first project objective of showing a decrease in participants' reported feelings of anxiety and depression was not achieved. The second project objective of demonstrating a reduction in participant's reported levels of pain was achieved with statistically significant results. การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงพรรณา เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างปัจจัยส่วนบุคคล ซึ่งได้แก่ อายุ ระดับการศึกษา รายได้ครอบครัว ความสามารถในการเบิกค่ารักษา อาการวิตกกังวลซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัย และ อาการวิตกกังวลขณะเผชิญ ของหญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่มีอาการแพ้ท้องอย่างรุนแรง กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือ หญิงตั้งครรภ์ ที่ได้รับการวินิจฉัยว่ามีอาการแพ้ท้องอย่างรุนแรง และได้เข้ารับการรักษาในหอผู้ป่วยสูติกรรม 3 คณะแพทย ศาสตร์ โรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดี ในระหว่างเดือนมีนาคม 2541 ถึง มีนาคม 2543 เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดย ใช้แบบสอบถาม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยโปรแกรม SPSS. FW Version 7.5 ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ระดับการศึกษา รายได้ครอบครัว ความสามารถในการเบิกค่ารักษาพยาบาลมีความสัมพันธ์ทางลบกับอาการวิตกกังวล ซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัย อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ อาการวิตกกังวลซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัยมีความสําคัญทางบวกกับอาการ วิตกกังวลขณะเผชิญอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ระดับอาการวิตกกังวล ซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัยและระดับการศึกษา สามารถร่วมกันทำนายอาการวิตกกังวลขณะเผชิญได้ร้อยละ 14.5 อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ผลการวิจัย ครั้งนี้พยาบาลสามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ในการดูแลหญิงตั้งครรภ์ ซึ่งมีอาการแพ้ท้องอย่างรุนแรง โดยการ ให้ข้อมูลกับหญิงตั้งครรภ์เพื่อลดอาการวิตกกังวล และสามารถตั้งครรภ์ต่อไปได้อย่างมีความสุข

State anxiety was measured by the State Anxiety Scale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, developed by Spielberger, Gorsuch, Luschene, Vagg, and Jacobs (1983). The effective use of nursing diagnosis internationally depends in part on incorporating language and cultural difference into the common language of nursing. International validation studies can provide a basis for this effort. This study tested three diagnoses—anxiety, hopelessness, and ineffective airway clearance—through multinational validation. The Diagnostic Content Validity (DCV) model was used to collect data from critical care nurses in six countries. Defining characteristics rated as critical (> .80) by the total sample were dyspnea for ineffective airway clearance and panic and nervousness for anxiety. No critical defining characteristics for hopelessness were identified. DCV ratios for …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of therapeutic touch to anxiety, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate of 30 hospitalized women between the ages of 30 and 65 with the medical diagnosis of cancer. Subjects were matched into three intervention groups; three consecutive days subjects received a five minute intervention by therapeutic touch, casual touch, or no touch. A-trait and A-state anxiety were measured by the Self-Evaluation Questionnaires developed by Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Lushene.
