Background: While the nursing profession has made great strides in pain management over the last 20 years, patients often report being under-assessed and undertreated for pain.

Purpose: The study purpose was to understand the lived experiences of practicing nurses who had completed a baccalaureate-level pain management course during their undergraduate training. The study aims included understanding how pain management skills were implemented in the clinical arena, determining barriers to implementing pain management skills, and identifying opportunities to improve the patient experience regarding pain management.

The practice gap identified was that staff lacked current evidence-based knowledge in medication compliance. Purpose: Managing wounds often requires frequent clinic visits, posing a burden on both patients and the healthcare system. Shared wound care, which encourages patients to manage dressings at home, has emerged as a potential solution. This study investigates factors influencing self-wound care adoption in Singapore.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey involving 328 participants from six primary healthcare centers was conducted. The survey examined demographics, wound characteristics, and perceptions towards shared wound care using a locally validated questionnaire. Parametric tests and logistic regression were used to analyze the data.

A survey conducted by the Georgia Department of Public Health Office of Nursing in April of 2021, demonstrated that 45% of the public health nurses surveyed had never deployed to a mass congregate shelter, and 43% reported they had no formal training related to emergency preparedness or mass sheltering. BACKGROUND: Team-based primary care (PC) enhances the quality of and access to health care. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) implements team-based care through Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACTs), consisting of four core members: a primary care provider, registered nurse (RN) care manager, licensed vocational nurse, and scheduling clerk. RNs play a central role: they coordinate patient care, manage operational needs, and serve as a patient point of contact. Heart failure (HF) is the primary reason for hospital admissions in the United States, accounting for almost 6.5 million hospital days per year and for 8.5% of cardiovascular deaths. As part of care delivery and supported by the evidence, providers use intake and output (I&O) to guide a HF patient’s overall treatment plan. Following several reviews in the local organization, it was determined that I&O documentation sheets were incomplete or not completed at all. This descriptive correlational study explored the relationships between cultural competence, ethnocentrism, and perspective-taking in practicing medical-surgical nurses living in the United States (US). Participants (N=111) were recruited from the New Jersey Board of Nursing (NJBON) and from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN). The survey consisted of three validated instruments a) the cultural competence assessment instrument (CCA-I); b) the generalized ethnocentrism scale (GENE); c) the perspective-taking (PT) subscale of the interpersonal reactivity index (IRI), and d) demographic profile questions. Preceptor training is crucial for the development of nurse preceptors. An interactive in-person preceptor class was developed, incorporating learning strategies such as gaming and role play. After implementation of the class, results showed an increase in confidence among nurse preceptors and satisfaction with learning through various teaching methods.

A Quality Improvement Project To Address Academic Dishonesty And Clinical Misconduct Perceptions Among Undergraduate Nursing Students, Angela D. Phillips

Background/Context:

Seventy-two percent of undergraduate nursing students engage in academic dishonesty, increasing the likelihood of clinical misconduct. Clinical misconduct may compromise patient care. Student perceptions of dishonest behaviors may influence their actions in both academic and clinical environments.

Problem/Purpose:

This quality improvement project evaluated student perceptions of dishonest behaviors before and after watching an educational video created to increase awareness of academic dishonesty.

Outcomes/Results:

Fifty-seven students completed The Nursing Student Perceptions of Dishonesty Scale before and after implementation of an educational intervention. Students perceived behaviors as more dishonest, evidenced by an increase of subscale mean scores ranging from 0.01-1.11.
