Mentorship has played an important role in nursing and nursing education for decades. However, there have yet to be any standard qualifications or training programs for those who mentor others. Poor mentorship increases faculty turnover, stress, and poor student outcomes. A quality improvement initiative was implemented in the Associate Degree Nursing Program using an evidence-based approach. Using a pre-post survey design with convenience sampling, five (N=5) nursing faculty met the qualifications to participate in the mentor training program. The Mentor Efficacy (MES) survey, which consisted of 30 questions, was administered to measure the participants' feelings of self-efficacy in the mentoring …

OBJECTIVE: This descriptive qualitative study sought to understand the barriers affecting cancer care delivery from the perspective of healthcare professionals (HCPs) serving American Indian (AI), rural, and frontier populations.

METHODS: One-on-one, semi-structured interviews with multidisciplinary HCPs (

RESULTS: Thematic content analysis revealed three major themes: (a) Access, (b) Time, and (c) Isolation. The themes represent the HCP perspectives of the needs and barriers of persons with cancer to whom they provide cancer care. Furthermore, these themes also reflect the barriers HCPs experience while providing cancer care to AI, rural and frontier populations.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is becoming more frequently performed in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). Subsequently, patients are scheduled for an option to undergo a 23-hour observation which requires staff preparation. The preparation increases costs and creates a shortage during a standard daytime shift which can reflect negatively on patient care. Evidence shows that HPV vaccination uptake is lower than other vaccinations offered in the early adolescent/adolescent age group. Healthy People 2030 set forth a goal that 80% of adolescents ages 13-15 will have HPV vaccine series completion by 2030. The use of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia (UGRA) in anesthetic practice is an invaluable tool for anesthesia providers to implement into their daily practice. One of these regional techniques is the erector spinae plane block (ESPB) which has anesthetic implications in numerous surgical procedures including cervical spine, thoracolumbar spine, thoracic wall, and chest wall procedures. Because of the novelty of this regional anesthetic technique, it is important to educate first-year anesthesia providers about the implications, skillset, and complications of the ESPB.

Purpose: High reliability principles and patient safety tenets emphasize the importance of preventative measures and mitigation in near-miss safety events to prevent patient harm. Near-Miss Event (NME) reporting at VCU Health was recognized as waning in the face of higher-level harm events. Misnomers in the environment led front line team members to believe that their Good Catches, acts of preventing harm from reaching the patient, did not warrant safety event reporting as they were “just doing their job.”

การวิจัยเชิงพรรณนานี้ ศึกษาสมรรถนะตามบันไดวิชาชีพของพยาบาลหอผู้ป่วยวิกฤตโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง โรงพยาบาลตติยภูมิขั้นสูง ด้วยเทคนิคการวิจัยแบบเดลฟาย ผู้ให้ข้อมูลคือ กลุ่มผู้เชี่ยวชาญจำนวน 18 คน แบ่งเป็น 5 กลุ่ม ได้แก่ 1) พยาบาลผู้เชี่ยวชาญการดูแลผู้ป่วยวิกฤตโรคหลอดเลือดสมองจำนวน 6 คน 2) หัวหน้าหอผู้ป่วยวิกฤตโรคหลอดเลือดสมองจำนวน 4 คน 3) แพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญการรักษาผู้ป่วยวิกฤตโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง จำนวน 3 คน 4) พยาบาลผู้ปฏิบัติการขั้นสูงด้านอายุรศาสตร์และศัลยศาสตร์จำนวน 3 คน และ 5) อาจารย์พยาบาลผู้เชี่ยวชาญการพยาบาลผู้ป่วยวิกฤตโรคหลอดเลือดสมองจำนวน 2 คน ดำเนินการวิจัย 3 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ 1) สัมภาษณ์เกี่ยวกับสมรรถนะพยาบาลตามบันไดวิชาชีพ ซึ่งประกอบด้วย พยาบาลระดับปฏิบัติการ ชำนาญการ ชำนาญการพิเศษ และเชี่ยวชาญ 2) วิเคราะห์ข้อมูล และสร้างแบบสอบถามเพื่อให้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญประเมินระดับความสำคัญ และ 3) คำนวณค่ามัธยฐานและค่าพิสัยระหว่างควอไทล์เพื่อสรุปผล ผลการศึกษาพบว่า สมรรถนะตามบันไดวิชาชีพของพยาบาลหอผู้ป่วยวิกฤตโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง โรงพยาบาลตติยภูมิขั้นสูง ประกอบด้วย 8 ด้าน ดังนี้ 1) การปฏิบัติการพยาบาลในระยะวิกฤต 2) การบริหารยาความเสี่ยงสูงที่ใช้ในผู้ป่วยวิกฤต 3) การป้องกันภาวะแทรกซ้อน 4) การฟื้นฟูสภาพหลังพ้นวิกฤต 5) การสื่อสารและประสานงานเพื่อการรักษาพยาบาล 6) การพยาบาลระยะท้าย 7) การใช้เทคโนโลยีและเครื่องมือดิจิทัลทางการแพทย์ และ 8) การจัดการและพัฒนาคุณภาพการดูแลผู้ป่วย ซึ่งพยาบาลที่ปฏิบัติงานในหอผู้ป่วยประกอบด้วยพยาบาลระดับปฏิบัติการ ชำนาญการ ชำนาญการพิเศษ และเชี่ยวชาญที่มีสมรรถนะทั้ง 8 ด้าน แต่สมรรถนะย่อยมีความแตกต่างกัน ดังนี้ 1) ระดับปฏิบัติการ เน้นงานพื้นฐานภายใต้การดูแล 2) ระดับชำนาญการ สามารถดูแลผู้ป่วยซับซ้อนและทำงานเป็นทีมได้ 3) ระดับชำนาญการพิเศษ สามารถแก้ปัญหาเฉพาะหน้าและใช้หลักฐานเชิงประจักษ์ และ 4) ระดับเชี่ยวชาญ สามารถพัฒนาองค์ความรู้ใหม่ทำให้คุณภาพการดูแลผู้ป่วยดีขึ้น การศึกษานี้สามารถใช้เป็นแนวทางในการประเมินสมรรถนะและมอบหมายงานตามความสามารถของพยาบาลแต่ละระดับ

A subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a type of stoke where a blood vessel bursts and causes the subarachnoid space to become filled with blood. Traditional nursing management of SAH includes close monitoring of blood pressure goals in order to prevent complications such as vasospasm. Vasospasm causes delayed cerebral ischemia and neurological deficits secondary to the initial injury.
