This transcendental phenomenological study aimed to understand the experience of clinical judgment for senior associate degree nursing students at a rural community college. The students completed a 60-minute simulation involving the cardiac system and debriefed after the active simulation. The theory that guided this study was David Kolb’s experiential learning theory, which defines the learning process as creating knowledge through transforming experience. Falls in hospital settings pose significant safety and financial risks, particularly in Behavioral Health Units (BHU), where fall rates often exceed national averages. Despite traditional fall prevention practices, such as risk assessments and post-fall huddles, the target BH unit continued to experience high fall rates, failing to meet the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) standards. Is Long-Term Survival Higher In Patients Who Receive Propofol-Based Total Intravenous Anesthesia During Colorectal Cancer Surgery Compared To Volatile Anesthesia, Shad Anthony Mitchell

The study reviewed several retrospective cohort studies that examined the impact of propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) versus volatile anesthesia (VA) on the long-term survival of colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery patients. Eight studies found no significant difference in mortality between the two anesthesia types, while three studies indicated a significant decrease in all-cause mortality favoring propofol TIVA. The studies had varying follow-up periods, with some extending to five years. Notably, two studies controlled the type of volatile anesthetic used, specifically sevoflurane and desflurane. The findings suggest a potential survival advantage for propofol TIVA, warranting further investigation.

Education is correlated with health literacy, which is a combination of reading and listening skills, data analysis, and decision-making during the necessary health situations. This study aims to evaluate the effect of education on the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This is a population-based cross-sectional study using the 2019 nationwide survey data in Korea. There were 3951 study subjects, after excluding participants with missing data for key exposures and outcome variables. Psychometric validation involves the accumulation of proper empirical evidence to confirm measurement of the intended construct, and to justify the intended uses of the scales. LOQ is based upon the intentional learning theory, which is a comprehensive, holistic learning theory. This DNP project was designed to increase awareness of insomnia and sleep hygiene in the target community by providing an in-person educational session on sleep hygiene. The educational session provided information on insomnia, sleep hygiene habits, statistics of those with sleep disorders, and medication use for sleep. The impact of the project implementation was measured using a pre-intervention survey and a post-intervention survey. All survey items had an increase in correct answers post-intervention. In conclusion, the results revealed there was an increase in awareness and knowledge base of insomnia and sleep hygiene after the education was provided.

Homelessness is the most visible form of housing instability in the United States of America. Yet, millions of people across our nation live in unstable housing, which consists of temporary housing, shelters, outside encampments, and vehicles. Many citizens facing these types of insecurities live paycheck to paycheck and are one health crisis or emergency away from financial ruin. The COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, and slow hourly wage growth have exacerbated this situation.
