Limited research exists about the experiences of nurses’ caring for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic post hoc. To understand nurses’ realities of caring for patients with COVID-19, I aimed to understand the lived experience of nurses caring for patients with COVID-19 in the United States. A qualitative design with a hermeneutic phenomenological methodology was used. Sixteen participants were recruited via purposive sampling, augmented with snowball sampling. Introduction

The prevalence of prediabetes in adults aged 18 or older was as high as 38% between 2017-2020. Youth-onset T2DM is a more aggressive phenotype than T2DM that occurs later in life. Young adults with T2DM have poorer health outcomes, lose an average of 15 years of life, all resulting in significant economic burden impacting the person. Current self-management interventions do not improve health outcomes in young adults with T2DM.

Purpose

The purpose of this research was to explore the self-care experiences of young adults living with T2DM.

The purpose of this mixed methods study was to determine how communication evaluation by clinical faculty compared in a clinical setting versus a simulation setting for Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students. PURPOSE The aim of this quality improvement project was to decrease Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) scores by 5% among nurses working in a joint and rehab unit after using the mindfulness-based mobile application Headspace for 2 months.

BACKGROUND Indicators of rising burnout were noted on a 27-bed joint and rehab unit at a general medical and surgical facility in Houston, Texas.

METHODOLOGY The OLBI survey was used to measure burnout risk. The Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle was used to plan and identify necessary changes. Champions on each shift led selected brief Headspace app mindfulness-based activities once a shift daily for two months. …

Objective:  To compare the rates of all-cause surgical complications of synthetic interbody devices versus allograft or autograft in patients undergoing 1-2 levels anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) procedures. This project utilized group visits to increase self-care management and improve outcomes among veterans with poorly controlled DM2.

Early mobilization of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients can improve patient outcomes but also includes barriers to implementation. Nebraska Medicine has continued to have ongoing quality improvement initiatives like the ABCDEF liberation bundles and early mobilization that have been attempted but have never fully come to fruition. This project surveys Nebraska Medicines ICUs staff to better understand attitudes, knowledge and behavior regarding early mobilization using a validated tool. Immediate post-operative endotracheal reintubation after major abdominal surgery a significant patient safety concern due to the potential for failure to rescue, or other adverse outcomes such as altered mental status, aspiration, and hypoxia due to respiratory or cardiac arrest if left unrecognized. To facilitate major abdominal surgery (outside of a cesarean section performed under spinal anesthesia), the patient must be anesthetized, pharmacologically paralyzed, and endotracheally intubated to facilitate ventilation via mechanical respiration. Unhouseness, also known as homelessness, coupled with mental illness, causes health problems for some veterans; financial difficulties, unemployment, and lack of affordable housing are factors contributing to veteran unhouseness (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). Approximately nine percent of the entire unhoused population in the United States are veterans (United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, 2020). Background: Spontaneous and induced abortions are common outcomes of pregnancy. There is inconsistent evidence of an association between early pregnancy loss and subsequent diabetic and hypertensive disorders in women. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated evidence on the risk of the subsequent development of pregnancy and non-pregnancy related diabetic and hypertensive disorders in women who experienced an early pregnancy loss.

Background: The relationship between nurse staffing, skill-mix and quality of care has been well-established in medical and surgical settings, however, there is relatively limited evidence of this relationship in emergency departments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase in the number of unhoused individuals in Asheville, North Carolina resulting in more tent encampments.

Understanding the physical, mental, and socially determined health characteristics associated with being unhoused can help guide stakeholders with policy development, healthcare program planning, and funding decisions to support unhoused individuals.
