Background: Many women who suffer from substance use disorder syndrome (SUDS) have low self-esteem and can be labeled as “unfit parents” which can impede infant bonding and maternal sobriety. Parent and self-efficacy are associated with improved maternal-infant attachment and sobriety (Adams, et.al. 2021). The earlier prenatal education is implemented, the more empowered the mothers will feel to be able to help their infants and themselves.

Relative to other outpatient healthcare specialties, appointment nonattendance (no-shows) is most prevalent in psychiatric settings. Upon meeting with a community-based mental health organization in Louisville, KY (LCMHO), referral no-shows for intake appointments were identified as a significant issue. LCMHO’s intake appointment no-show rate, estimated at 25 – 40%, exceeded nonattendance trends in the literature. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to develop and implement a referral engagement reminder intervention for improving intake appointment attendance. To determine if preterm birth is associated with adaptation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis and whether HPA axis programming relates to the degree of prematurity (defined as extremely preterm birth at < 28 weeks or very preterm birth at 28–32 weeks gestation).

Design:

This study reports findings from a prospective birth cohort. Saliva cortisol concentrations were measured prevaccination and postvaccination, and in the morning and evening, at 4 months chronological age.

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a complex, multifaceted, and widespread condition that impairs the quality of life of older adults aged 65 years or older. Although nonpharmacologic interventions informed by the biopsychosocial model are recommended as first-line therapy for LBP, pharmacologic therapies, including opioids, are commonly used as first-line interventions in practice. This could be attributed to a lack of understanding of the analgesic properties of most nonpharmacologic interventions. Nonetheless, some nonpharmacologic therapies, such as passive music listening, have been shown to modulate pain via pathways that target the neurophysiological mechanisms associated with pain.

Few studies have examined how exposure to substance influences adolescent’s use of substance in Timor-Leste. We assessed this relationship using nationally representative data from Timor-Leste to address this gap. Data was pulled from the 2015 Timor-Leste Global school-based student health survey. Data of students aged 13-17years (N = 3700) from class 7–11 across schools in Timor-Leste were analyzed for this study. Second-hand smoking exposure (AOR = 1.57 [1.31, 1.89] and parental tobacco use, AOR = 1.94 [1.54, 2.44]) was significantly related to in-school adolescent’s current use of substance after adjusting for covariates. However, current knowledge about the effectiveness of this technology in extending older adults' independence is lacking. Therefore, we conducted a scoping review of studies examining passive remote monitoring to systematically synthesize evidence about the technology's effectiveness as an intervention. Our initial search of Embase, CINAHL, PubMed, and Scopus databases identified 486 unique articles. Of these, 14 articles met our inclusion criteria. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to health misinformation and are at risk for suboptimal adherence to protective health behaviors in the COVID-19 pandemic. Guided by factors consistent with the theories of planned behavior and rumor transmission, this study sought to analyze the impact of multiple information sources, including social media, television media, internet and parental counseling, on masking behaviors in adolescents. Stigma is a formidable burden for survivors of lung cancer that can reduce the quality of life (QOL), resulting in physical, social and psychological challenges. This study investigates associations between stigma and depression, QOL and demographic and health-related characteristics, including race.

An adapted conceptual model derived from the Cataldo Lung Cancer Stigma Scale guided this descriptive correlation study assessing stigma in African American and Caucasian survivors of lung cancer. Sepsis can lead to life threatening organ dysfunction, severe hypotension, and death when severe sepsis or septic shock is involved. Sepsis is responsible for 50% of acute kidney injury (AKI), which is the most common form of organ dysfunction seen in critical care. The ability to debrief is considered an essential clinical and simulation teaching skill because of the deep learning cultivated. Regulatory bodies identify the need for debriefing training and professional development followed by formative and summative assessment.

Method

The Debriefing for Meaningful Learning Evaluation Scale (DMLES) is a behaviorally anchored rating scale developed to assess 20 behaviors aligned with Debriefing for Meaningful Learning (DML). Participants from five baccalaureate pre–licensure nursing programs were recruited to receive DML training, then facilitate and record a debriefing for subjective and objective assessment using the DMLES.
