Background: The COVID-19 pandemic globally impacted healthcare due to surges in infected patients and respiratory failure. The pandemic escalated nursing burnout syndrome (NBS) across the workforce, especially in critical care environments, potentially leading to long-term negative impact on nurse retention and patient care.

Objectives: To compare self-reported burnout scores of frontline nurses caring for COVID-19 infected patients with burnout scores captured before the pandemic and in non-COVID-19 units from two prior studies.

The Effectiveness Of An Aprn-Led Pain Service On Patient Satisfaction Scores: A Retrospective Analysis, Maripatricia Welz-Bosna

Abstract

This quality improvement (QI) project examined if the implementation of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) led consult pain service, was able to improve patient satisfaction measured on the HCAHPS and Press Ganey pain satisfaction scores. A one-way ANOVA analysis was used to examine if mean outcome scores varied at a statistically significant level (p<.05) by year (2018, 2019, 2020). Bonferroni Post Hoc tests reflecting How Often Staff Talk About Pain by year using the dependent variable Top Box Score, indicated that the mean score for year 2020 (M=74.10, SD=17.45) was significantly higher than year 2018 (M=63.22). The mean score for year 2019 (M=64.62, SD=22.80) did not differ significantly from the other two years. Bivariate analysis indicated that Press Ganey Scores reflecting Staff Talk About Pain Treatment did not vary significantly by year, F(2, 445) = .41, p=.66. Results from this QI project and the effectiveness of an APRN-led pain service on patient satisfaction scores are inconclusive, and further research is needed. Pain is complex, and a patient's satisfaction with pain is never straightforward. The effectiveness of an APRN-led pain service on patient satisfaction remains under-researched and in need of more methodological evaluation. APRNs need to focus on multidimensional validated outcome measures, which can measure our effectiveness in the management of patients with pain.

Hypothermia has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality in adults and increased mortality in children. Unplanned hypothermia increases adverse outcomes in patients, including increased blood loss, increased risk for blood transfusion, decreased oxygenation to major organs, and decreased immune response (Beedle et al., 2017; Brozanski et al., 2020; Erdoğan et al., 2019; Granum et al., 2019). Background and objective: Sepsis is one of the leading causes of direct maternal mortality in Pakistan. It is recommended that the first three hours after the presentation are crucial. During this time implementation of surviving sepsis campaign resuscitation bundles reduces maternal mortality. Objectives: To implement and evaluate the effectiveness of using a mobile app to encourage hospital workers to increase their physical activity.

Methods: Project was open and advertised to all hospital employees in a small rural community hospital in the south-eastern United States through flyers, bulletin boards, emails, banners and in-person registration assistance. Registered participants completed a 30-day walking challenge and recorded their daily step counts. Participants received a gift bag with fitness items such as water bottles. The three highest step count participants were awarded prizes. Weekly prize drawings were conducted for participants with 10,000 steps per day. Post challenge …

Health inequities due to communication barriers exist at a high rate for those who identify with limited English proficiency. This quality improvement project aimed to decrease these inequities by providing pre-translated discharge instructions (AVS) to patients who receive surgical services and recover in the pediatric post anesthesia care unit (PACU) of a state hospital. Specifically, this project examined if the availability of pre-translated instructions (SmartPhrases) increased nurse and interpreter satisfaction with the discharge process, and improved their perceived level of equitable care they are able to provide. Introduction. Acute pain is a prevalent problem for dementia residents in nursing homes. A variety of intervention strategies have been applied to address this problem. However, there remains an issue of inadequate pain control. This study aims to explore the analgesic efficacy of auricular acupressure (AA) for dementia residents with acute pain in nursing homes. Methods. A multicenter, single-blind, randomized, and sham-controlled clinical trial was performed in three nursing homes in Yinchuan, China. Objectives: We assessed the effect of feeding preterm or low birth weight infants with infant formula compared with mother's own milk on mortality, morbidity, growth, neurodevelopment, and disability. Methods: We searched Medline (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Studies to October 1, 2021. Results: Forty-two studies enrolling 89 638 infants fulfilled the inclusion criteria. We did not find evidence of an effect on mortality (odds ratio [OR] 1.26, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.91-1.76), infection (OR 1.52, 95% CI 0.98-2.37), cognitive neurodevelopment (standardized mean difference -1.30, 95% CI -3.53 to 0.93), or on growth parameters. Background: Unintended pregnancies account for over half of all pregnancies in the United States. Unintended pregnancies can lead to abortion, socioeconomic difficulties, medical complications, psychological issues, and political issues. Unintended pregnancies are potentially harmful to both the mother and the baby. Healthy People 2030 listed reducing the number of unintended pregnancies as one of their family planning objectives.

The purpose of this study was to better understand the concept of empowerment among caregivers of children with asthma. This study investigated what is already known about empowerment among caregivers and the instruments available to measure caregiver empowerment. This study then examined the relationship between social support and caregiver empowerment as well as income level and empowerment amongst caregivers of children with asthma. This study used the Federal Poverty Guidelines, Family Empowerment Scale and MOS Social Support Survey to measure these relationships. Background: Pain is a complex and multi-dimensional phenomenon. Nurses play a vital role in assessing and managing pain and must use sound clinical reasoning to accurately make clinical judgments to notice, interpret and respond to patients’ pain.

Method: Exploratory research on the impact of a newly developed AV simulation on nursing students’ Noticing and Interpreting skills in assessing pain of culturally diverse patients. Data were collected via self-administered pre and post–intervention surveys.

Background: Theory-based and qualitative evaluations in pilot trials of complex clinical interventions help to understand quantitative results, as well as inform the feasibility and design of subsequent effectiveness and implementation trials.

Aim: To explore patient, family, clinician and volunteer (‘stakeholder’) perspectives of the feasibility and acceptability of a multicomponent non-pharmacological delirium prevention intervention for adult patients with advanced cancer in four Australian palliative care units that participated in a phase II trial, the ‘PRESERVE pilot study’.

Background: Neurological conditions produce considerable disease burden.

Aims: To describe quality of life in patients with neurological conditions and informal caregivers receiving postdischarge generic community neurological nursing services, and caregiver burden.

Method: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used with researchers administering the WHOQOL-BREF Australian Version questionnaire and Zarit Burden Interview.

Results: Most patients and caregivers rated quality of life as 'Good'. The patients’ physical, psychological and environment domain scores, and caregivers’ physical domain scores, were below norms. Half of the caregivers experienced burden and 42% had risk for depression.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) supports the use of mindfulness-based therapies for the medical and mental health treatment of veterans. The Wilmington, Delaware VA Medical Center (VAMC) offers mindfulness-based programs in guided imagery, tai chi and mindful meditation; however, the veterans who receive primary care services do not participate in these programs to their full potential.
