Thousands of studies have been done proving that an increased patient load leads to burnout, job dissatisfaction, occupational injuries, adverse events, and patient mortality. In an effort to keep nurses at the bedside, California passed The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005. This evidence-based study of literature investigated best IM injection practice. The review was based on evidence from 3 main sources, all found on the CINAHL database. Currently, the practice is that the nursing staff are seated in or around the desk allowing for interruptions from phones, families, and other staff members. Problem: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) affects eight million Americans and is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. in people 60-85 years of age. Veterans are at a 45% greater risk to develop PAD than non-veterans. Left untreated, PAD can progress to hospitalization for revascularization, amputation, or death. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends using a standardized screening tool for the diagnosis of PAD; however, a lack of standardized screening is problematic in veterans receiving proper intervention.

Hospital discharge with quality patient education and instruction is paramount for the success of recovery and mitigation of readmission. Identification of gaps within hospital discharge can lead to strategies to improve the discharge process. A project was designed to improve data collection, documentation of discrepancies (gaps/events), and analysis of data relating to patient and process outcomes of a post-discharge follow-up phone call program. Interventions included a newly implemented algorithm to outline a phone call workflow, refine data collection, and evaluate outcomes. Data collection to increase identification of gaps in care from discharge to follow-up aid in improving patient outcomes.

The purpose of this study was to capture a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the patient experience on an inpatient medical teaching unit in order to identify key deficiencies and unmet needs. Bleeding is a risk among patients on dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after the percutaneous intervention (PCI) in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). There is a need to accurately identify the patients with increased bleeding risk. Evidence shows that 1.7 cases bleed among 100 PCI patients, and 5% of patients are re-admitted for bleeding which increases subsequent death or MI within 60 days post-discharge bleeding. A challenge to substantiating the value of interprofessional education (IPE) has been the limited number of studies that assess the effectiveness of IPE interventions compared with education interventions in which professions were learning separately from one another.

Purpose

The purpose was to compare interprofessional socialization (IS) in mixed-discipline and single-discipline–only student cohorts to determine if mixed-discipline cohorts demonstrate greater improvement in IS compared with single-discipline cohorts.

Methods

Interprofessional socialization was measured using the Interprofessional Socialization and Valuing Scale in 166 university students who completed a semester-long online palliative care course.

The utilization of heterosis is a successful strategy in increasing yield for many crops. However, it consumes tremendous manpower to test the combining ability of the parents in fields. Here, we applied the genomic-selection (GS) strategy and developed models that significantly increase the predictability of heterosis by introducing the concept of a regional parental genetic-similarity index (PGSI) and reducing dimension in the calculation matrix in a machine-learning approach. Overall, PGSI negatively affected grain yield and several other traits but positively influenced the thousand-seed weight of the hybrids. The sense of sight is one of the important human sensory abilities that is required for independent functioning and survival. The highest burden of sight-related problems is recorded in low-and middle-income countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Anaemia and diarrhoea are known independent causes of under-five morbidity and mortality. This study sought to investigate predictors of comorbid patterns of anaemia and diarrhoea using the 2014 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (GDHS). Methods

The study employed analysis of secondary data from the 2014 GDHS. We performed a multivariate complex sample logistic regression and spatial analysis. Results

The vast majority of rare diseases (RDs) are complex, disabling, and life-threatening conditions with a genetic origin. RD patients face significant health challenges and limited treatments, yet the extent of their impact within health care is not well known. One direct method to gauge the disease burden of RDs is their overall cost and utilization within health-care systems.
