The purpose for this project is to determine whether the prone position is the best position for a patient who is being placed on a mechanical ventilator. Our research question is, in mechanically ventilated patients, does the use of the prone position promote better patient outcomes than the supine position? We are comparing recent studies on the benefits and complications that can arise in placing patients in the prone or supine position. It is commonly taught that this is to reduce pain and to ensure all the medication is delivered into the muscular tissue. Background: The turnover rate for newly licensed nurses is high, posing financial and resource challenges for healthcare organizations. Transition to practice programs are an effective means of supporting retention. Mentorship is a best practice within such programs as it promotes job satisfaction, professional growth and development, and retention.

Objectives: The purpose of this project was to implement and evaluate a pilot mentor program with new nurses. Outcomes were: development of a structured program, enhancement of mentees knowledge about the value of mentorship, and assessment of mentee and mentor satisfaction with the program through a final satisfaction survey.

Background: Type II diabetes continues to be a pervasive issue among African American adults. Significant challenges in effective management have resulted in poor health outcomes that have disproportionately threatened the quality of life among this group and increased the risk of mortality. Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) has demonstrated success in improved patient management and its capacity to mitigate risks for complications. Although researchers and health institutions generally accept DSME as an effective tool for managing diabetes, limited studies exist on its efficacy for African Americans.

BACKGROUND: The distorted association of “end of life (EOL)” with “goals of care (GOC)” has “silenced” crucial goals discussions in patients with relapsed high-risk leukemia, which raises concerns for the provision of care that is inconsistent with patient’s values and preferences.

The challenge: Health care staff across all levels find it challenging to prioritize their own wellbeing, both during and outside of an immediate crisis. The stigma associated with accessing emotional support resources, a health care culture that idolizes stoicism, and competing priorities for time leave many prone to burnout.

The organization: Parkview Health is a not-for-profit, community-based health system serving northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. The system includes an extensive network of primary care and specialty physicians and 10 hospitals, with more than 13,000 employees.

Cardiac arrest that occurs in hospitals carries a mortality rate of 80%, even though there are numerous advances in health care (Yousaf et al., 2018). Typically, these life-threatening cardiac arrests can be preceded by changes in the client's status, specifically in the vital signs (Yousaf et al., 2018). While in the ICU mortality rates are increased and all patients are monitored on a monitor that can read Arterial line pressures, continuous pulses, and monitoring of oxygen saturation. It has been found that dependent upon the area in which an individual lives, their access to various forms of healthcare can be scarce and practically non-beneficial to them. Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIV) are frequently used in acute care settings for short-term delivery of intravenous (IV) medications and fluids (Marsh et al., 2018). While this is a common practice in the hospital, the insertion of these PIVs can be quite difficult. According to Marsh et al. (2018), multiple insertion attempts are common, and post-insertion failures from complications such as occlusion are as high as 69%, triggering the insertion of subsequent catheters. This research analyzed the use of a vascular access team, commonly known as an IV team, to improve PIV outcomes in the acute care setting. The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between aging female informal caregivers of persons with dementia (PWD) and care recipients’ PWD demographic factors, aging female informal caregivers of PWD social support factors, positive and negative feelings, a sense of flourishing, stress, and life satisfaction.

Background/Rationale

Older adults with dementia are living longer and the majority are receiving care by aging female informal caregivers. Dementia incrementally worsens over time impacting informal caregiver life satisfaction. Most studies have focused on negative aspects of informal caregiving.
