Antimicrobial resistance is a significant risk that threatens life, increases health complications, decreases antibiotic effectiveness, and increases healthcare cost. Overprescribing of antibiotics in outpatient settings is a key factor that has led to increased antibiotic resistance. There are more than 150 million antibiotics prescribed in outpatients annually; 30 percent of these antibiotic prescriptions are either unnecessary or inappropriately prescribed, with acute respiratory infections holding the position of the highest unnecessary use of antibiotics at 50 percent. A visual estimation has been the standard measurement for blood loss post vaginal or cesarean section delivery. Research has shown that visual estimation also known as estimated blood loss has led to an underestimation of total blood loss volume. This results in over 100,000 women per year in the United States that experience an adverse effect due to delayed recognition and treatment for postpartum hemorrhage. By quantifying blood loss, the volume is measured by a one to one ratio; one-gram weight is equal to one-milliliter blood volume. Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) continues to occur despite medical advances over the years. PONV decreases patient satisfaction, can lead to postoperative complications such as dehydration and suture dehiscence, and it increases hospital costs. Evidence in the literature suggests a preoperative risk assessment screening and prophylactic antiemetic administration can decrease the incidence of PONV. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a risk assessment tool and to determine if the tool would decrease the incidence of PONV. การวิจัยกึ่งทดลองมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาผลของการพยาบาลตามแนวคิดของนิวแมนต่อพฤติกรรมป้องกันการติดเชื้อของ มารดาเด็กโรคมะเร็งเม็ดเลือดขาวที่ได้รับยาเคมี กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ มารดาของผู้ป่วยเด็กโรคมะเร็งเม็ดเลือดขาว ที่ได้รับการรักษาด้วยยาเคมีบำบัด ในโรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดี คัดเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเจาะจง (purposive samping) จำนวน 30 คน แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมและกลุ่มทดลองกลุ่มละ 15 คน กลุ่มทดลองได้รับการพยาบาลตามแนวคิดของนิวแมน เพื่อป้องกันการติดเชื้อภายหลังได้รับยาเคมีบำบัด เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้ แบบสอบถามพฤติกรรมป้องกันการติดเชื้อของมารดาเด็กโรคมะเร็งเม็ดเลือดขาว ที่ได้รับยาเคมีบำบัด มีค่าความตรงตามเนื้อหา 1.0 และค่าสัมประสิทธิ์ความเที่ยงของเครื่องมือ 0.82 วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติพรรณนาและสถิติ Mann-Whitney U ผลการวิจัยพบว่า มารดาผู้ป่วยเด็กโรคมะเร็งเม็ดเลือดขาว ที่ได้รับการรักษาด้วยยาเคมีบำบัด กลุ่มที่ได้รับการพยาบาลตามแนวคิดของนิวแมน มีพฤติกรรมป้องกันการติดเชื้อดีกว่ากลุ่มที่ได้รับการพยาบาลตามปกติ อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05

In today’s current healthcare environment, there has been an extensive focus on patient satisfaction, and healthcare leaders struggle with the options of utilizing a registered nurse or a non-nurse when making outreach follow-up calls to recently discharged patients. Healthcare leaders find that designing, implementing and managing an efficient telephone outreach program can be challenging, however, this has become a necessary aspect of the patient continuum of care plan.
