The Qualitative Report

Liverpool Care Pathway is an integrated care pathway (ICP) designed to ensure the provision of high-quality end-of-life care. However, the ICP has come under substantial criticism, suggesting that its use is related to poor care. This study explores nurses’ use of the ICP to dying patients in Norwegian nursing homes. We conducted a qualitative study using an abductive, mystery-focused method to analyze the experiences of 12 registered nurses. Our findings show that the nurses experienced the ICP as a very useful tool in end-of-life care, although they were actually working independently of the ICP in the provision of ongoing bedside …

Purpose/Objectives: To provide an overview of the efficacy of using iPad tablets and online education videos to provide cancer related patient education to increase patient knowledge and satisfaction.

Data Sources: A literature search for peer-reviewed articles from 2009-2019. Databases searched include Cochrane, CINAHL, and PubMed. English language terms utilized: waiting, patient experience, patient satisfaction, cancer, positive distraction, oncology, music, patient education, iPad, television, and online education. 10 articles will be utilized for this review.

The purpose of this systematic review is to synthesize the study design features as well as the attributes and outcomes of technology-based health interventions targeting chronically ill adults and their family caregivers. Twenty papers representing 19 studies met the inclusion criteria. Various theoretical foundations or approaches guided the interventions in 11 studies. Interventions either aimed to support patient self-management and improve patient outcomes or enhance shared illness management and improve patient and caregiver outcomes. The interventions included educational, behavioral, and support components and were delivered using various technologies ranging from text messaging to using the Internet. Introduction: Ischemic stroke remains one of the most debilitating diseases and is the fifth leading cause of death in the US. The ability to predict stroke outcomes within the acute period of stroke would be essential for care planning and rehabilitation. The Blood and Clot Thrombectomy Registry and Collaboration (BACTRAC; clinicaltrials.gov NCT03153683) study collects arterial blood immediately distal and proximal to the intracranial thrombus at the time of mechanical thrombectomy. This report describes a research study to measure the effect of simulation on clinical educators’ knowledge and skills about effective formative feedback for prelicensure nursing students.

Subject Population: Clinical nurse educators who teach prelicensure nursing students in clinical education were recruited.

Research Design: Pre-test and post-test design with a simulation workshop for educators as the intervention. This was a pilot study.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the variation in caesarean delivery rates across counties in Georgia and to determine whether county-level characteristics were associated with clusters. Design: This was a retrospective, observational study.

Methods: Rates of primary and repeat caesarean by maternal county of residence were calculated for 2008 through 2012. Global Moran's I (Spatial Autocorrelation) was used to identify geographic clustering. Characteristics of high and low-rate counties were compared using student's t test and chi squared test.

The Community Outreach and Education Project targets high risk groups within Gaston County to increase education and vaccination against Hepatitis to, in turn, lower countywide Hepatitis rates. Through implementation of the project, Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services-Public Health (GCDHHS-PH) will partner with Community sponsors to gain access to their high-risk clients. Sponsors will be educated on the impact of prompt intervention in slowing the spread of hepatitis throughout high risk groups. Once an agreement is made between GCDHHS-PH and Community sponsors, GCDHHS-PH will present to participating facilities and begin screening, educating, and vaccinating high-risk individuals.

Background/Purpose: The purpose of this literature appraisal is to assess adolescent access to long-acting reversible contraception (LARCs). Theoretical Framework: The Health Belief Model (HBM) helps describe the psychological and behavioral underpinnings of how one cares for one’s health. The HBM can be applied to how adolescents perceive the risks associated with unprotected intercourse compared to the perceived benefits of LARC usage. The HBM considers the benefits, barriers, risk of susceptibility, risk severity, self-efficacy, and cues to the action of adopting positive health interventions in one’s life (Jones et al., 2016). In 2020, the nation was faced with a pandemic that quickly depleted health care resources. Standards of care were reviewed to identify opportunities to reduce the burden on healthcare resources. One of the standards of care that was reviewed nationally and locally at the St. Cloud Hospital (SCH), was the postalteplase/ thrombectomy patient placement and monitoring.

The standard of care for the placement and monitoring of post-alteplase patients was established during the 1996 NINDS trial and has not been studied since. Very minimal literature is available on the standard of care for patient placement and monitoring post-thrombectomy.
