Chronic illness burdens individuals, organizations and society, costing the US $3.5 trillion annually. Transposed from the engineering industry, condition‐based maintenance is a novel concept that holds great promise for alleviating this burden by enhancing current health care delivery methods. Aims of this concept analysis include, (a) develop an operational definition for the term condition‐based maintenance and (b) discuss the applicability and effectiveness of condition‐based maintenance as applied to health care. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects 24% of the US population (DiNapoli, 2014). Untreated OSA causes many diseases, affects one’s quality of life, and increases mortality (Pengo et al., 2018). Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the lifelong treatment for OSA; yet 30%-80% of OSA patients are CPAP noncompliant within one year. The purpose of this EBP project was to determine if implementing a positive frame message intervention would improve CPAP compliance for newly diagnosed OSA patients. Geographic distance to available resources, health care provider shortages, parental obesity, and poverty contribute to higher prevalence of obesity in rural children compared to urban children.

Rationale: Obesity prevention and treatment often requires long-term healthy lifestyle behavior changes including nutrition counseling and physical activity (PA). It is likely an obese pre-adolescent will have obesity as an adult, and the likelihood increases if obesity continues into adolescence. This study aims to measure perceptions of family centered care among expectant mothers in Columbus while assessing potential racial differences in order to improve prenatal outcomes. In order to do this, surveys were distributed to pregnant women at 10 clinics providing prenatal care in Columbus and sleep sacks were provided to women who completed the survey. There was a total of 401 surveys collected between August 2019 and January 2020. The conclusion being that one in five women report not receiving family centered care during their prenatal appointments, however there was no racial difference for family centered care.

Patient with autism spectrum disorder tend to have a higher occurrence of chronic constipation, rendering the recommended therapy ineffective. For this quality improvement project, prucalopride 2 mg, was prescribed to relieve symptoms of chronic constipation. The project was executed at an intermediate care facility. The population of interest were male adults ages 29 through 40, with a complaint of chronic constipation. The patients were prescribed prucalopride 2mg once a day, for 2 weeks.
