Empathy is a skill that nurses and nursing students must use with their patients to provide high quality care and build rapport with patients. Although, the prolonged use of empathy has been shown to increase compassion fatigue in nurses and decrease quality of life. With our current understanding about enrollments needed to meet the demands of an adequately prepared healthcare workforce, attention needs to be directed toward the preparation of an adequate educator workforce. Antibiotic resistance is considered an emerging crisis in the healthcare world. This crisis has the potential to cause many bacterial diseases that cannot be cured using antibiotic drugs, which can lead to serious infections and death. There have been numerous studies that have found that sugars, proteins and protein-lipid complexes in breastmilk have antimicrobial properties. It has been proposed that these properties in breastmilk can help solve the antibacterial resistance crisis. Background: Debriefing is considered to be where the bulk of learning takes place. Examination of debriefing is needed to help determine if facilitation methods effectively contribute to the learning process. More instruments are needed to evaluate all key debriefing elements, and no tools exist that evaluate participant engagement in the learning process.

Method: Kolb’s experiential learning theory was used to inform tool development. The focus of the new instrument is behaviors that indicate engagement with the learning process as the learner moves through Kolb’s learning cycle. The purpose of this project was to identify risk factors for the development of post-operative complications in breast cancer patients after breast reconstruction surgery. The author first identified possible risk factors through a literature review and evaluated a current risk assessment tool being used in current practice. A retrospective chart review was conducted of fifty charts of patients who underwent a mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery for the treatment of breast cancer. This study aimed to assess and understand nurses’ knowledge, perceptions, and advocacy of family presence during resuscitation in the emergency department. For this cross-sectional descriptive study, an anonymous electronic survey was administered via email to all nurses employed in the emergency department at a local healthcare facility. This project sought to increase healthcare providers’ responsive feeding education to parents of newborns at a community health center in Southeast Kansas. An educational offering was held for participating providers who provided health services throughout infancy. The offering reviewed the projects’ methodology, instruments, and intervention to increase responsive feeding education. Parents of newborns who met the inclusion criteria and who presented for an initial newborn visit with their healthcare provider were invited to participate. Background: Pressure injuries have been known to affect approximately 2.5 million patients each year, with roughly 60,000 patients dying as a direct result of a pressure injury. Associate healthcare costs are between $9.1-$11.6 billion per year in the United States. The cost of individual patient care was estimated between $20,900 and $151,700 per pressure injury. During the last three years, pressure injury prevalence has risen within the local long-term care organization. Pressure injury prevention interventions have been developed to improve healthcare outcomes, cut costs, and increase revenue for long-term care organizations.
